sex scenes

fitzcarraldo [Edit] [Delete] 37 replies 11:27, 7 May '13

was talking to my mate earlier who only recently realised why his dad kept flicking over to the news when they watched lethal weapon 2 together years ago, he missed patsy kensit's nips as a result

when i was a kid my parents would shuffle awkwardly when a sex scene came on the telly but wouldn't normally switch it off, weirdly my ma was more likely to turn something over if there was a bout of particularly offensive swear words

were your parents more liberal about communal viewing of simulated tv sex scenes?

  • My grandparents would deliberately watch films/programmes with sex scenes in,

to embarrass my parents when we visited.

My granddad thought it was hilarious, my mother, less so.

  • I was catching up with Breaking Bad at my sister's house

and we were watching the second episode of the second series, I think.

when Walt came up behind Anna, ostensibly to cry on her shoulder, my sister stood up and said, "I'm just going to make a cup of tea.", and seconds later it all made sense.

  • I remember going to see Life Of Brian with my dad when I was 13

The morning-after bit where Judith strides in full frontal was a little embarrassing, but it was in the cinema so at least the lights were off. Otherwise, I'd say my folks were fairly OK with sex scenes: like fitz says in the OP, my mother was far more concerned about swearing - would always tut when anyone said 'the F word'.

  • I remember when we had some relatives over once my dad decided to rent a video to keep us kids entertained, and ended up getting American Pie thinking it looked like a light comedy.

I was probably about 14 or so, with some much younger cousins. Can't remember at what point my dad switched it off, but it was not a very pleasant experience (funny in retrospect though).

I had a TV in my bedroom later and used to watch those Channel 5 films on a Friday night, I was sure I was doing it entirely secretly but I bet my dad knew what I was up to.

      • I could have written a thesis on them.

The perils of erotic thrillers vs erotic dramas, the recurring tropes and symbolism, the music, the settings, the use of Shannon Tweed.

  • The advent of VHS in my adolescence meant that

I could generally avoid watching potentially embarrassing films with the folks. Lots of examples: Don't Look Now, Officer & A Gentleman, Basic Instinct. oh, and especially Carrie: still a winner nearly 40 years later :)

  • Y'know that non-contact sex helmet bit in Demolition Man?

It freaked my mum the fuck out.

Mostly because after watching the film, my six-year-old brother kept wearing his cycle helmet and saying that he felt tingly all over.

Stallone's films from that point onward were banned. :-(

  • I don't remember any terribly embarrassing examples as kids,

but when my girlfriend and I first got together and she came to see me at my Dad's house, he was out at the pub and we were watching Wild At Heart. He came home just as Willem Dafoe did this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUtn7e05C8M

Because of the bizarre layout of our sofas we couldn't see him, he was pretty drunk and taking ages to take his shoes off. As soon as the scene was finished he stood up and said "Well, I'll leave youse to it" in the best approximaion of amused nonchalance he could muster. There was no good way to handle any of this.

    • I'm 37 and I cringe like a teenager.

Few years back I suggested that we (me the missus and my mum) watch Sideways "Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment, embark on a week long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle"

Imagine my horror when the hotel room scene started and one of them is banging some bird from behind quite vigorously.

  • Crash

I remember telling my folks I was going to stay up late as I wanted to watch a film that was coming on the telly. It was Crash, the David Cronenberg sex and cars one, not the shitty LA 'race' drama.

Anyway, my old dear decided to sit up with me and watch the start, if you're familiar with the film you'll know this is the air hangar scene. She had a massive smile on her face and went to bed leaving me to it, no doubt saying something cheeky.

She was also around when I was watching Goodfellas one time and was particularly tickled when Lorranie Bracco gets some cash off Ray Liotta and decides to go down on him in the kitchen.

FUCKING MORTIFIED I WAS, BOTH TIMES

  • When I still lived with them my parents had an uncanny knack

of walking in to the only moment of any given film that had some sex or nudity in it. 1-second flash of boobs in the entire movie? Mum will walk in and ask what this filth I'm watching is.

  • Total Recall

    with triple-breasted woman.

dad to siblings: he shouldn't be watching this!

    siblings: why?

dad: that woman's exposing three of her breasts!

siblings: one of them's fake, dad.

    me: which one?

  • I remember my Dad dubbed out the dance scene in True Lies

To be fair it was Jamie Lee Curtis and so he did us a favour. Thinking back it was probably just an excuse for him to watch it again while he pressed pause on the VHS.

However the worst was when we all sat down to watch The Tall Guy which has a pretty loud sex scene. I think I was about 13 but my 9 year old sister had to have her eyes covered by my Mum! Quite cringe-worthy as a bottle of milk explodes under Emma Thompson's arse cheek.

    jontosh2001 | 8 May '13, 11:59 | X
    • you mean he actually removed the scene from the VHS?!
