Which is the most disappointing album release this year for you?
Most disappointing: possibly Bowie, but that's unfair because it would never be the album I wanted it to be... maybe Yeah Yeah Yeahs or The National, based on first few listens. And that new Knife, what an abomination, I really didn't expect that to be so bad, so actually, I'll go for THAT.
about the poor reviews but I think it's great. The new Knife album is unlistenable. I couldn't stop listening to Silent Shout for months. Shame.
and voting was compulsory, which one would you vote for and why?
Definitely the commies, I don't think the Cubans have it so bad (obviously it could be better), and it's a far better system than capitalism that creates a hugely unequal society, in which 1% of people exploit everyone else.
It's all the fascism I don't like.
ho ist paramoar?
I had curtains and an under-cut once, it was a little bit Dumb & Dumber. (no, they weren't beef...)
start an "ask me anything" thread?
10k (but I think I forgot to do one of these threads when I finally passed 10k)
Not that I do social media etc.
I always feel really depressed when I see articles/reviews on here with virtually no comments, I hope enough people read them to make it worthwhile for everyone involved.
Have a nice evening anyway Sean.
It's hard to encourage people to follow you. Most of the sites with huge numbers are in the list of suggested sites to follow.
We get a stadium audience reading the site every day. Most reviews, even of tiny bands, are read by enough people to fill the O2 arena - which frankly is bonkers, as some of them go on to sell about 300 copies.
I wasn't being a dick at all, glad it's more sustainable than it seems!
Sorry, it's one of those things I keep meaning to do.
What will it include?
I dunno. There's no ETA. I've been messed around by a few folks now. Off to meet a big agency to see if they can bring it in under budget on Friday - I doubt I can afford them, which is why I've been using freelancers. One of whom has only really communicated with me to chase invoices, rather than, like, yuhknow, deploying the work he's done so I can test it.
It will generally look a bit nicer (less clutter, less bright white), and be easier to fix and stablise and upgrade. Nothing much will change to begin with, but hopefully we can add a few things to make the site easier to use.
i was planning on offering you £250k for 20% of your busines, but now i'm oot, sorry.
i'll just repeat the question though so you can ignore it again; what does DiS roughly cost you to run per month, what are the main costs, and what percentage of total costs do you make back in advertising generally?
There are 2 part time members of staff, two more who work a day a week, and myself four days a week (although I usually end up working 10-15 hour days six days a week... Although in reality I end up monitoring the site, sharing things on social media and trying to respond to emails seven days a week, even on holiday although the few of those I've taken have ended up being work-related...). Aside from that the costs include: developers (£300-500 per day - so far £12k has been spent on new site, but most of that has upgrading and industralising things), server costs (and various tech management and monitoring services like Unfuddle and New Relic), accountant, legal advice... Some months are as income is less than £2k (we've had about ten of these in the past three years, and the good months just about balance things out - but it's this reason why I can't afford to spend more on development...the debts we were left with post-Sky, including a quarter with no income has made cash-flow challenging).
Hope that gives you some idea.
If you don't know the answer I'd like you to crowd source it plz x
to allow for one off investment on the site?
I know you run it as a business, but I spend so much time on here, I wouldn't care about throwing a few quid your way to help with cash flow etc.
This is more for my own personal understanding based on a long term interest in geography and weather systems than anything more financial
I would like a subscription what lets me ask in the right place.
You should monetise your dog drawing skills. I'd subscribe.
I found weather information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thundersnow Thundersnow sounds very scary.
Thanks ooji. I will think of another question for Sean now
I aim to please.
