Not the film/average song by Editors, the place!
Who's been? Is it awesome? Is it shite? Can't wait!
Pretty girls, prosperous and I hope you like meat in industrial quantities.
Found it pretty expensive, even by big city standards, but pretty decent.
I've not been to Hamburg, but anyone i've ever spoken to who's visited both, as A-i-C says, has prefered Hamburg, of the two.
Dusseldorf seems to be pretty popular nowadays. Dunno why, maybe it's a bit cheaper, or less touristy, idk.
Bitterly cold (obvious for February), but the food was awesome, if you like meat. Beer was alright (I'm not a big beer drinker anyway), but agreed with what was said above about it being quite pricey.
It was for a stag so can't speak too much about the cultural side of things, but it was easy to get around and some good bars.
Once on holiday and twice with work.
Thought it was pretty average to be honest. Obviously if you just want to piss on and eat schnitzel, then it's fine. If i was going somewhere to do that i'd probably just go to Vienna.
My colleague kept saying it looked just like Bedford.
Oktoberfest on the other hand (not been), could be awesome, or really shit. If you can put up with loads of tourists then i've heard it's worth it.
Day one on the piss, day doing a really nice free tour of the city and then hanging out in the Englishegarten, day popping out to Dachau (grim, obviously, but worth it).
Has a really distinct culture and style to other bits of Germany, feels very worth it as destination in its own right. Quiiiiiite pricey, but the less historic beerhalls not smack bang in the centre are cheaper and still very much beerhalls.
Met a couple in a beer hall an they drove me to neuswhanstein and paid for my lunch. Yeah it's different from other place in Germany. God I love Germany.
Remember it being a nice city, well worth going. As lukowski has mentioned, the Englischegarten is a pretty good place to relax on a nice day.
Some beautiful public spaces (including the Englischer Garten), great markets, arguably the best beer in the world. If you're planning on going to some beer halls/gardens, I would definitely recommend the Augustinerkeller.
Oh, and the Müller'sches Volksbad (art nouveau public baths) looks amazing, but I didn't get time to visit it.
