standout telly drama series' of the last year or two...
bar the high-profile shit like Boardwalk Empire, Man Men (heh), Treme, Breaking Bad, and the better-known Scandi stuff which you've all seen because the Guardian dictates what you watch - The Killing, Borgen, The Bridge, maybe Bergmann, etc, has there been any other properly decent stuff that we might not have seen, say, over this year and last?
i watched the first episode of that Arne Dahl series on BBC4 last night. like it. looks like it might be a bit more standard police drama than The Killing, etc, but still pretty good.
also going to get into that Kelsey Grammar one, and House of Cards.
shoot...
In about 4 years if the good wife's stil around
There will be loads of stuff about how good its going to get and how everyone should watch it
In The Flesh
Utopia
Accused
The Street
This for Utopia
need to watch Utopia already
and In The Flesh
How long ago was The Fades on?
I liked that. Got weaker towards the end but the black kid in it was awesome.
This is England '88
This is England '86
Haven't seen '88
but '86 is DARK.
'88 is proper dark too,
but essential viewing imo
I've had it hanging around the flat for a while
just not got around to it yet. One day...
Think you might possibly be getting them mixed up there.
'86 was quite lighthearted, from what i remember, whereas '88 was about Lol's dad, who was pretty much the scariest character on TV.
What the hell?
Lol's dad was in episode 3 and 4 of '86.
Right you are.
*** SPOILERZ ***
It's me who's getting them confused. I thought '86 was about the scooter gang and Gadget pulling the milf, then '88 was about Lol's ordeal...but thinking about it, the dad was dead at the start of '88, wasn't he? YEAH, that's it.
Yup,
and '88 was all about how Lol couldn't cope with stuff.
Read that they are making a moody UK version of the Bridge
with the body being found in the channel tunnel.
I will not have her tunnel bandied around this office willy-nilly
Called The Tunnel iirc
The Fear
Was alright, its on 4OD still. It was pretty dark and silly but pretty good all the same. Its about an old dude ex gangster in brighton who keeps blacking out cos of alzheimers and being violent while trying to help out his sons who have got into soem deep shit. Only 4 episodes worth a watch prob.
Was that the one with Peter Mullan?
no idea
never heard of him, could well have been. Not that well up on any kinda actors really.
You'd recognise him.
He's been in tonnes of stuff.
Pretty much the best TV actor going, in Britain at least.
He was vaugly familuar but I dunno what from
it is him, just googled. Only thing I can think of I've seen him in was the Red Riding trilogy that was on a while back and pretty ace and maybe Trainspotting, Shallow Grave if he played any kinda prominent charecter.
think he played Mother Superior in Trainspotting.
The Fixer was alright, as well.
Yeah, it was that one.
He's a terrific actor (and director too). I missed it first time around, but if it's still on 4oD, I might catch up.
Ey its defo worth a watch
Have you seen any of the French crime shows, like Spiral and Braquo?
Nope
Are they worth digging out? I don't watch much telly really and prob even less drama but if they're worth a shot I'll have a look.
lol thought you replied to me
reee-build.
Top Boy
Rebuild?
Black Mirror, all of them
Sherlock
arne dahl is really weird
stick to the tarka then
ha
Top of the Lake
is really good.
Vikings and Black Orphan are watchable but walk a tight line. Shameless US is amazing.
guy pearce is in vikings but doesn;t have any lines and then gets killed
that was weird.
I'm not really one
for drama, but I enjoyed
-Homeland, and
-Borgen
Also,
there were some non-comedy bits in Fresh Meat that were really well done.
Not strictly drama, but the first couple of series of Misfits were really excellent.
Ripper Street was a bit trashy but very enjoyable if you like some Victoriana.
Spartacus
good fun all around
hit & miss might be up your street if you haven't seen it
