You cant exactly have an extravagant life though
Just do the maths, innit, but if you're willing to make some sacrifices I'm sure it's possible.
i earn fucking pennies, live in Falmouth which is similar prices and live off the bare essentials
i'm about 9,000k
it depends how extravagant your lifestyle is but you could live on £14k anywhere...
If you found the right house share. You'll probably be quite a way out of town though, and half the point of living in Brighton is enjoying all the fun it has to offer.
would be doable but tight I reckon ...
1k a month take home?
400 on rent and bills?
100 on travel
200 on food
50 on fixed things like toiletries, phone etc?
might leave you with about 60/week to live on for going out etc. Doable but would get pretty tricky if you needed a haircut, new clothes, computer breaks, someone's wedding, christmas etc.
But had no money to go out (was too busy doing a PGCE anyway) - which made living in 'AVING IT LAAAAARGE BRIGHTON a tad depressing - it's like you're expected to go out every night or your citizenship will be revoked.
Generally everything round here in Sleepy Sussex is extremely expensive and Brighton is no different - it's the one and only decent place to go to in the whole county so it's not the cheapest either.
Good luck anyway!
and not with tooooo much difficulty
rents are pretty expensive, but in a house share it's very doable.
I think you can have a lot of fun in brighton on not too much money
if you are going to clubs or gigs you might want to sneak in a hip flask or whatever to keep costs down, but everywhere is in walking distance, loads of stuff during the festival is free, the fabrica art gallery is always free, the beach is free.
i lived on about that when i first moved here - maybe even a little less, the that first summer I just had the MOST FUN EVER.
a year or two I'd imagine at most.
especially in May
Brighton Festival and Alternative Escape for example are completely free and pretty awesome.
AND somehow manage to save a couple of hundred quid a month. I don't pay for my travel which obviously helps, but in Brighton you can walk anywhere from anywhere so that should also be minimal for you too assuming you are working and living there. I pay £400 a month rent and you can easily find somewhere decent for a similar outlay in Brighton if you're willing to share with others.
