Had some great news at the weekend and finally have an evening off work so listening to Dan Deacon, going to make an omelette, play some Hitman and drink lots of beer.
What's the news?
Got funding to do an MA and PhD at Lancaster as of September which I really wasn't expecting to get.
Lancaster is a great place.
I'm currently studying (finishing off my undergrad degree) in Leeds and I've never really been to Lancaster before, apart from a couple of weeks back when I went to meet my provisional project supervisors for about 2 hours. I don't know anyone in Lancaster and imagine it'll be a big change culturally but looking forward to it. Will miss Leeds though.
but it's such a friendly place. Great campus, great people, I wish I could go back! Are you going to live on campus?
Would feel a bit weird going back into halls environment in my mind. Been there, done that, you know? Will probably find a house share somewhere in the city as I will be able to afford a relatively nice place and bus passes are pretty cheap for the year it seems.
Any clues on where I should be looking house-wise? I take it you studied there at some point?
There is a graduate college (which you'll automatically become part of) that you could live in but I think those that do are mostly people who've come straight from undergrad degrees, and foreign students.
Yes, I studied there and had the best time - but it was 2004 to 2007 so my knowledge is 6+ years out of date! Where best to live partly depends on what you'll be getting up to. Anywhere along Scotforth Road / the roads off it are great for getting to campus quickly, but terrible for getting back to after a night out in town. If you plan to go out much at all, I wouldn't recommend it. I lived right in the town centre for my second and third years, and it was great. Don't live anywhere north of the River Lune, or anywhere south of campus as you'll be stuck unless you're driving (not much parking at the uni, so you'll still be stuck even with a car). The area around the railway station and between there and the canal is probably your best bet.
Whoa, bit of an essay there, sorry! It's all good really, just avoid Skerton and you'll be ok.
This is the company I rented from in my second and third year http://lpnm.co.uk/ they were always really helpful and good with maintenance and stuff. A lot of what they do is aimed at undergrads but the probably have flats with grads and possibly non students as well.
That all sounds good. Cheers for the advice, I've been primarily aiming for around the train station as that's what the postgrad admissions tutor advised me and she seemed cool.
And yes, I will avoid Skerton!
I'm currently editing my sitcom pilot (college project) and evidently not giving it the full attention I should be.
You probably won't find any inspiration here I'm afraid
but it kills time!
You been making any more music as of late?
Its all up at www.soundcloud.com/bamnan
Gives me something to do!
But cool! I will take it thanks :)
I listened to a few others and they are less so but still enjoyable! Different from the Thom Yorke/Radiohead-esq stuff you had a few years ago.
Thank you for listening
Got all my little jobs done, gonna have a few beers and watch England.
(it's my turn to go in goal for my 7 a side team)
don't know whether to eat before or after?
bit bored. Just started watching game of thrones to see what all the fuss is about. I'm not really into goblins and dragons and that but it seems ok so far.
although that bit where they're shagging in the bath whilst the guy shouts out the names of dragons :D
want to get to fifty by the end of summer. not gonna happen. not gonna happen at all.
You're only going to die anyway, enjoy yourself!
My son has left to go back to university today, he had been staying with us with his gf for a week. They may have spent most of the time in his room but now Im going to miss him again (I got over him leaving the first time)
I got a bottle of cheap dark rum from aldi. call bush something or other.
On the first swig I thought it tasted well industrial, but now its grown on me, I might get some more
Hows life treating you lately?
I mean I might fall down a pothole tomorrow, so why worry
why do you always come on dis in this timeslot lately? Its a bit inconvenient because I now have to go, before they switch my card off the security system
I would be fired instantly and besides I don't actually ever get five minutes spare I'm always super busy, as such I only get home about 7pm.
Daytime dis used to be fun, I do miss it
i discovered some old acoustic CDRs you'd burned for me a while back.
how's it hanging col? been a while.
Yeah not too bad thanks, in the studio with the band on Friday, I'm trying desperately to resist the urge to buy an ipad4...think I probably will anyway
But some stuff in my flat has been fixed (including my cooker, although I still have no food). Looking forward to Easter.
his dad brought him to the last gig we put on, always cool (if intimidating) knowing someone this young has such good ideas.
cramming all my resting in tonight because i can't do that again until sunday.
my week, at a glance:
tomorrow: meeting some friends up from london in the afternoon, then a lecture in the evening.
thursday: working so that's a write off.
friday: really busy all day on a project for a client that i've all responsibility for, so also a write off.
saturday: working, might have to do a dreaded double shift.
sunday and monday: OFF. i need to go shopping for some gloves that don't make my hands feel tingly yet aren't too tight (got raynaud's as well as synovitis cause of lupus and arthritis in my hands, what a fucking shit i hate myself)
then: A WHOLE BLOODY WEEK OFF.
I hope you enjoy it and it doesn't wear you out (your poor wee hands. I hope you find a cosy treat for them. )
It's actually called Rajboy and theyre a really quite good indian restaurant. They wouldn't let me pay for my curry and they all gave me a brilliant hug. <3 went to see the guys at costcutter too. They gave me a hug too (had to pay for my rubicon though).
Urgh, still so much packing to do.
(Basically garluc chilli lamb, but i asked for it vindaloo strength for a change, and it's s perfect I wish id always had it this way!) saag paneer side dish, garlic nan and steamed rice,
Went to BangFace to see a friends gig, it was a lot of fun. Now I am suffering greatly because of it. Emotionally more than physically.
Anyone have a windows 7 installer disk they want to send me. My laptops decided to die at the most inopportune moment and won't turn on now without said disk.
So now I need to go down to the bin and retrieve thw matching bottoms that I threw out in a frustrated rage earlier. Mmm bin juice.
The relief! Ive found some well strange things whilst doing this packing job. So much booze and stuff in bags i forgot i had.
