so this looks like it's going to happen on a wider scale in the next 5-10 years, that's gonna be a laugh eh?

3D printers are the devil's work
either solve a lot of the worlds problems, or royally fuck us up in a sorta mad max way
That might help its PR
i.e Rather than having to go and buy stuff, you can just get it for free?
Rather than going out to buy a car, just print one off at home?
it would appear so yes
well you'd have to pay for the materials and energy.
change the toner

which seems to say you can get a hold of one of these printers for around £1000!
And surely 3D printers, at the moment, only print plastic?
they have and do.
that they're printing out at the minute, but apparently you can still purchase all of the other components legally, and without background checks, online.
also NASA appear to now be 3d printing rocket parts made of metal - http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/140084-nasa-3d-prints-rocket-parts-with-steel-not-plastic
Like... There was no metal there, until bits of metal came out of a printer and built into that shape?
It's not molten metal being cast? Or a block of metal being machined? This really is witchcraft. It will never be understood.
but a cursory google seems to show that it's definitely happening elsewhere
i guess it'd be possible if the metal was in liquid form, then fed into the printer and cast into whatever shape it wanted?
It's just die-casting. Been around for years, NASA.
of what NASA are up to here btw
3d-printing is used in industry as a far quicker and cheaper alternative to die-casting/injection moulding etc
i imagine it uses a powdered metal or something
There is no possible way it can work, other than by witchcraft.
For not understanding such a simple concept (like steam engines and electricity and that)
bar things like cones.
I'd like to walk around shooting 3D printed objects from a 3D printing gun. BANG! would be the noise it would make.
At the risk of sounding like one of the people who were afraid of locomotives or electricity
3D printers are the devil's work

either solve a lot of the worlds problems, or royally fuck us up in a sorta mad max way
Can it print water?
That might help its PR
nah you need a dot matrix for that i'm afraid
A little from column A, a little from column B
Are they like the internet for things?
i.e
Rather than having to go and buy stuff, you can just get it for free?
Rather than going out to buy a car, just print one off at home?
if you've got the required CAD drawings
it would appear so yes
well you'd have to pay for the materials and energy.
I imagine it's a right bitch to
change the toner
"i call this 3d printer bob marley...."
actually posted the wrong article, meant to post this one

Someone want to buy one then print me off one for £500?
Haven't read the articles, but I thought no one had ever successfully made a working gun from plastic.
And surely 3D printers, at the moment, only print plastic?
nah
they have and do.
strictly speaking it's only the magazines

That's definitely 'printing' metal?

It's not molten metal being cast? Or a block of metal being machined? This really is witchcraft. It will never be understood.
i'm not sure in that particular process
but a cursory google seems to show that it's definitely happening elsewhere
i guess it'd be possible if the metal was in liquid form, then fed into the printer and cast into whatever shape it wanted?
That is not a new thing...
It's just die-casting. Been around for years, NASA.
it's wholly possible i'm not being entirely representative

Reverts back to being witchcraft then
There is no possible way it can work, other than by witchcraft.
I assume in 150 years time, people will be laughing at us
For not understanding such a simple concept (like steam engines and electricity and that)
3d printers don't work. can't believe people haven't realised this yet.
bar things like cones.
Can we make T-1000s yet?
Slightly disappointed this isn't about guns that are 3D printers
