you have before your computer breaks? either til it's due a repair or beyond repair.
i'm missing 6 keys to varying degrees, without a battery and loads of the frame of my laptop has cracked and chipped off. i have a broken disc drive and the underneath is cracked too. i can no longer install any updates for just about anything and i'm starting now to have difficulties using more than one application at once. only one of two usb ports work.
so 100 years i reckon
and it's got low connectivity which is compounded by this shit router so i can't do any fun stuff online. can still play football manager 2009 though if i don't run any other programmes.
gonna go with 6 months. i think i'm getting a new one in the summer anyway
but it probably just needs the fan cleaned out or something
So in the 100 years club too
so any day now.
the disc drive is broken and it's pretty slow/programs crash quite a lot.
still hasn't crashed, so 1 more year?
I'm pretty careless with technology, if I looked after it I'd say 18 - 24 months.
no way I'll be able to replace it before I finish my degree
If I don't then I'm fair fucked.
Gonna replace it with a big iMac desktop when I get my first salary.
i don't think it's 50% broken yet
so another seven years or so?
mine's about the same and it feels new. the battery doesn't work, but can leave it plugged in.
i don't get how people only have computers for a few years
it would overheat really badly and switch itself off, so much so that I couldn't even put it on a desk, I had to keep it up on books. Even that wasn't full proof, and eventually it tripped off, smelt really bad, and then wouldn't turn back on.
My ipad is going to break when i throw it in the thames tomorrow Afternoon. I dont even know why it capitalised that a. This is why it has to go.
- disk drive is borked.
- one headphone jack is borked, the other is almost borked, and the speakers haven't worked for ages.
- battery has been borked for a few years now, meaning I can't charge it
it'll last a while, though.
and it still works amazingly - running Lion no problem.
My work macbook I've had about 18 Months and that's not quite so happy - but I'm impressed it still works ok after I dropped it and dented the corner hugely in Sainsbury's.
So to answer your question in a more direct way - No idea, hopefully a while!
so on the one hand the chassis is basically the most solid thing ever, but on the other hand the parts inside are probably made from spun sugar.
So somewhere between 10 years and about 30 seco
only use it for music & video making so will hopefully be fine for another 5 years or until I want to update my versions of ableton live, reason etc.
got a 5 year old laptop that I use for internet that will last me another 2 years at least.
It's really difficult to actually break a laptop if you have reasonably normal motor skills.
but can be fixed or plug in a USB one..
batteries/chargers can be replaced..
spray it with air every 6 months and its fine.
and I have 10Gb left, and nothing to delete off it. :/
saving up for a new computer already, natch. probably 6 months.
I reckon it's got another 5 years in it. The last one I built was 2003 and that's still going strong at my mum's place.
but i'll get a new one in the next 12 months cause i wanna play fancier games and for some reason current one's an arse to upgrade, thanks dell
The technology just updates too frequently.
