Do you read self-published books?
Was thinking that most people on DiS would be quite happy to listen to music (or even buy it) from an independent, DIY band. And lots of people here like independent, art house films from outside the mainstream studio stuff. But there's a bit of a movement now to rebrand self-published authors as 'independent authors', yet I don't know anyone who's ever read a self-published book.
(I realise the analogy doesn't quite add up, because a self-published author is equivalent to an unsigned band - do people listen to many of those? And God knows what an unsigned film maker is like... someone posting stuff on Youtube? A small band/art house director is equivalent to an author with a small publisher - and I reckon most people don't even look at who publishes their books).
BUT ANYWAY, have you read any, and do you think this new wave of open access content producers will destroy the old closed-door systems?

im a slow reader
takes me a few weeks to read most books, and i wouldnt want to judge them until i've finished, as opposed to 30 seconds to listen to an unsigned band and decide they're shite
