Uh?? - so I have to have an xbox live account to be able to play games, now then?
Just booted up my x-box to carry on playing Tomb Raider, and it asks me to sign in using my password.
I haven't had to type my password in for years - not even when I bought my new x-box a few months back, but either way I'm not too bothered because I always use a variation of the same passwords anyway, bnut when I try and type it in, it won't let me sign in.
I then go to microsoft to change my password and try again but it still doesn't work. All the while getting more and more confused, because all I want to do is play a game, not go onto xbox live.
Anyone else had this problem with my Mum?

that's golf, man
you can probably just make a free silver account, you just won't be able to do multiplayer stuff
still a load of bs though.
So basically I can't access my saved Tomb Raider data without paying another
years subscription to xbox live - even though I don't ever play on line. Well, maybe 2 weeks a year when the latest COD comes out.
This can't be right??
No
the saves are saved to the console, as far as i am aware, unless tomb raider's a really special case. but i know that to not be true, as a mate is playing as we speak and he doesn't have xbox live gold at all.
Why on earth cant I access the saved data then?
Going to have to start from the beginning again.
Weel, where did you select to save the data to? Are you sure it saved?
I mean, I haven't played it, but most games give you a pop up asking where to save to - External Storage, Memory Card, Cloud Saving, or Hard Drive. Make sure you chose Hard Drive i guess (if you have one).
I don't know how the new tomb raider handles saves but i remember the old ones you had to save your progress as the game went along at crystals...
It's saved to the HDD, but I have to be logged in as my gamer tag
to be able to access it. And I can't log in because it keeps telling me that my password or email address is incorrect.
The infuriating thing is, when I follow the instructions to change it, it a) lets me log in with the password in the first place and b) asks me if I'm sure that I need to change it.
I'm only changing it because it's telling me that it's wrong in the fucking first place.
Haha! Classic.
I honestly didn't realise that there was password protection on the basic logging in of a gamertag on an xbox. My gamertag has never came across that. I've played offline saves without Xbox Live though.
However; it is worth nothing that my Xbox Live login is also my Microsoft Account login, which in turn was my MSN log in. I think they are all the same now.
I am sorry I can't help...
Yes, the MS website is a bit shit for passwords and stuff. However, they have a chat feature
that is quite good. You can try and chat to someone and they will be able to help you out. They did a good job on me when i had some problems with cancelling a trial of the utterly shit Xbox music.
my xbox asked me
to sign in with password a while back and luckily i could remebeer it, the saved games are on your xbox hard drive but it wont let you access them unless you sign into your profile whether it be silver or gold or what ever. if you cant remeber it you can reset it but u need to knwo what email you used to set up your profile
I had what sounds like a very similar problem a couple of weeks ago
The source of the problem wasn't the account or password itself, but that Microsoft are now insisting you add some other form of validation (another e-mail address or mobile number) to that email/account. Something which I had been deliberately ignoring when logging into Hotmail/Live for a year or so.
Pretty fucking annoying.
it was better in the old days when all you got was a hoop and a stick
Or just when it was a PC.
I messed up my password once
I just sorted it all online, changed the password on the microsoft page then re-downloaded my profile to the xbox, logged in and it worked right away. Can't remember how I re-downloaded the profile to the xbox but it was easy following the instructions I googled.
I've done all that and it's not working.
I googled it as well (before I posted this thread).
no idea then
I really don't know why consoles have to be so connected and annoying nowadays tbh, its prob the worst thing about them compared to older generations.
Go to their website and join the queue to chat to someone,
an msn type pop up will load and then some dude will help you out.
Whilst the annoyance and issues are/were their fualt this service to resolve it was top notch!
Great thread:

Cheers for this - will brave it later.
Or I may just start all over again from the beginning. Might take about the same amount of time.
