Getting new housemates - how to avoid psychos?
Two of the girls I live with are moving out. We have some appointments set up with possible new housemates and I'm a bit anxious we'll end up with someone crazy (it's happened before, and they seemed fine when I first met them!).
Has anyone worked out a good screening process to weed out the nutters?

interview them
make them come in and sit with you for a while. drinks brews, chat about things. you'll know if you click with them.
i lived in a house for 3 years that had 4 rooms. over that time we had a high rotation of flat mates and there were no fall outs in all that time. everyone got on great.
I'm just a bit worried as one of the girls moving out is a bit crazy
she's been a bit of handful, and she was lovely when we interviewed her. First impressions can be deceiving sometimes!
maybe you need someone on your interview panel who is a very good judge of character
i'm really good at it
get c_r to do yr interviews
you have no part in it
This sounds like an ITV show.
Let's get this done.
that would help!
last girl was so sweet and demure in the interview, and turned out to be a massively neurotic, self obsessed attention seeker. Always a drama.
i'd have figured her out
become friends on facebook first?
somehow
can't be done
Live on your own
:)
i really can't afford that right now.
I'd also miss the communal tea drinking, movie watching times!
Acquire more money
Invite friends round to your new place for tea and films.
Live with friends
or friends of friends, though that can go badly too, do a longish interview, ask them if they're crazy? Mention all the annoying crazy things your ex housemate did and see how they react?
set up a krypton factor style assault course
for them to complete to win the chance to live with you
the person who does best in the flight-simulator section will be your best bet for sure
battle royale
it's the fairest way really.
Just seem really boring an emphasise how boring the house is. Emphasise shared chores.
Then hopefully they'll weed themselves out.
have a probationary period of a month or two
that way if they do turn out to be a bit mental you're not stuck with them for ages.
Assume that they're jeffrey dahmer mental...
then everyday will be better than expected.
give them a porno style casting couch
and make them suck your penis
its important to establish dominance early on
Alright, cat_race.
Definitely try to find a way to befriend them on Facebook. That and Twitter are probably the two best places to find clues...
Christ, man. You're going to wear this username out.
hold up
is this sexy_girl?
Follow them around for a few days,
go through their bins, track down ex-partners/colleagues etc. and ask if they have any annoying habits etc. I found some good housemates this way, they didn't stay for long though unfortunately :(
Take a shit on your driveway
see if they mention it. If things get a bit weird, tell them the binman did it and you hope they get fired.
