i needed to know how many different drivers were used on one of our collaboration contracts by looking through the number of journeys and counting each person as a unique entry (each driver could have between 5-15 journeys in one week - its a weekly report).
to do this before now i'd sorted by the drivers' unique ID and used the formula;
IF(A2=A1,0,1) , which was fine but it meant the data couldn't be sorted in another way, and this got rid of a column which is cool.
Incidentally, i could have used a much simpler formula if the ID was numeric, but its alphanumeric.
which isn't a proper character and stops everything being usable in any way. These phantom characters couldn't be replaced, text to columns didn't work etc. Drove me up the wall.
I don't like the dictatorial approach to deleting it without reason.
and I have no idea what you're all on about.
