One of the truly great managers.
Paul Bearer and the Undertaker were the best duo in wrestling.
Summerslam 94 Undertaker vs Fake Undertaker
Kane is aliiiiive
Reappearing with the Takers return at Mania 20
Id say kanes debut (as in what lead up to it and the debut itself) is probably the best debut in recent history.
where Paule Bearer slowly leads out a huge line of people dressed in cloaks and it's lit by candles and there's loads of smoke. At the back of the line they're pushing a coffin which has the Undertaker in (I think he was meant to have been killed at the time). This spectacle goes on for a while, and just when it's starting to get boring, a camera filming inside the coffin appears on the jumbotron and you see the Undertaker who actually starts with his eyes closed (as though he's dead) then suddenly opens them to wild applause and says in his slow voice about how he's going to beat the shit out of his oponent (might have been Yokozuna?). All the while Paul Bearer is jumping round like an idiot with the urn and that 'shocked' face he does.
I was probably about 12 at the time, and when you had to stay up until 3am as it was streamed live on Sky Sports. I remember thinking it was amazingly exciting and scary all at the same time. Brilliantf stuff!
from the 90s. Brilliant theatre.
and bearer came out before him just in the dark nodding and smiling
I think that this maybe a time when an in-character send off maybe appropriate. Druids, darkness, the urn.
The Undertaker is such a protected character I can't see them breaking kayfabe for him. Perhaps they'll set up a moment for the "brothers".
I always took it for granted that Paul Bearer would return again to guide the Undertaker into retirement.
Punk v Taker feud a bit more personal. Make it about Taker winning for Bearer.
But yeah, past form tells me they probably will.
he had lost all that weight as well
apparently he was actually a fully qualified funeral director and enbalmer!
strange how he went from that to being a generic manager to using that character.
pop quiz; who was Undertaker's first manager?
as the Undertaker it was the Million Dollar Man as part of his team at Survivor Series 1990
the answer is Brother Love baby.
I was hoping we'd see him on this run up to mania too.
and that we would have seen Paul Bearer ushering either to the ring for one last time - or - at the end of the match, appearing on the stage to lead him away into the darkness
at his funeral.
recently i was going to start a DiS 2013 Celebrity Death Sweep and he was my first pick.
About a decade ago
there was a lawsuit involving the World Wide Fund for Nature in about ten years ago
he was great in that too, still very much active as a manager and stuff
