Are there any game series where a new release would make you buy a machine to play it?
Was thinking about this as I've always said that the day The Last Guardian came out, I'd buy the shit out of a PS3. Looking likely it may be a PS4 or never happen now though.
I don't know how many other series I can say this about?
RE and MGS have had their day for me. GTA too unless it changed significantly.
There are a few Nintendo franchises I'd keep a watchful eye on. A genuine leap forward in a Mario game would convince me, likewise if Retro dropped something amazing within the Metroid universe again. Also, if this new RPG is anything like as good as Xenoblade then I'm all in:

Otherwise I'm not sure there is. Tomb Raider is the closest I've come yet to buckling and getting a new console. Maybe a great future gen WipEout would do the same? I'd be tempted to do whatever it takes to my Mac to run Half Life 3 too.
The most exciting looming games are actually both new IPs for once (Last of Us & Watch dogs).
You?
NOTE: For the purpose of this thread, FIFA / Pro Evo don't really count.

Very seriously considering getting a PS3 for
GTAV
if GTA V came out
and wasn't available on 360 i'd consider it
i'm still toying with getting a Wii U for new mario too
It's PS3 first though, isn't it?
Imagine the wait!
PS3 or PS4?
PS3 and 360 are on the same day 17/9/13
any other formats will be later on
I can't see it ever happening, but
Timesplitters 4
A full, proper remake of FFVII
proper remake, proper ultimate weapons
LSD Dream Emulator
I don't think there are any anymore
in the past Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, GTA, Doom/Quake, Elder Scrolls and further in the past Mortal Kombat (yeah, what?!)
and sonic
poor sonic
Sonic Generations and Segal All Stars Racing Transformed
genuinely excellent games
the generations demo was fun
not sure i'd fork out this generations prices for it though
It's quite cheap now
I think it's like £15 new, it's the first 3D Sonic game I actually enjoyed (yes the 3D segements were actually as fun as the 2D ones)
Lots of people raved about Sonic Colors too on here
Never played it
dont have a wii
Shenmue III would make me buy whatever it came out on.
chu chu rocket
srs
Half-Life
Carmageddon HD remake - (or is this in the works?)
think there was a kickstarter for a carmageddon remake?
Yeah I just looked it up
should be being released any time now apparently!
Love that game. Used to play it to death. Second one was great as well.
Half life 3 would make me spend lots of money on a new console.
As would a new Elder Scrolls game.
Yeah, Elder Scrolls is my answer
I think they need some new shit
I don't think I have a game on 360 that doesn't have a load of numbers on the end of the name.
One of the main drawing factors for buying a PS3 was Final Fantasy versus XIII
what a joke that has been.
A new Silent Hill game by the same team who made Silent Hill 2 or a new Chrono game. Imagine a next-gen Grim Fandango.
playing FF XIII-2 this weekend
i think the developers would have had a better time if they didn't have to accomdate a player and could just play around with the visuals instead
Wanting to play MGS4 was a big contributing factor to me getting a PS3
A Nintendo system when it finally has a decent Mario, Zelda and Matroid.
nintendo seems to have ceded the over 10s market to sony and microsoft
so you could be in for a big wait
Timesplitters for certain.
Timesplitters 2 was so much fun. Ludicrous, gingerbread man massacring fun. Seems daft that in this day of multiplayer being important that one of the most fun social games ever has been left to die. Call of Beardy is a bit po-faced for me. Hasn't even got monkeys in it.
Rollercoaster Tycoon as well. Though it wouldn't really work on anything apart from PC.
I sense that a lot of people are feeling that right now with gaming
Hence why for all the talk of jaw dropping graphics, next gen visuals etc a lot of these studios are pretty much going bust if a killer title doesn't double its production cost within a week.
Too risky for a lot of agencies so reckon we'll see more and more smaller, less glossy but more 'fun' games in the next few years.
There is a Timesplitters petition somewhere aiming to get to 300,000 signatures. Crytek have said they'll start work on it if it gets that far, but doubt enough people care anymore...

Such a shame, because I genuinely think I have never played such
a fun games a TS2. even loved three
Also, not making the game because of a lack of signatures on a petition is barmy
I loved loved loved TS1
Spent hundreds of hours playing it with my mates, designing levels and that.
3 was amazing as well I think
it's no 2but still ridiculously fun
I even played through the story mode about 50* times with various different people
*possibly an exaggeration
Pikmin 3
this is likely to happen, although I guess you could say that we were always going to get the Wii U, and we're just waiting until Pikmin 3 comes out.
a new GT
PS3, later this year*
*possibly
Sim City made me upgrade my PC
so I guess that?
Bioshock Infinite very soon indeed
If they made
X-Com Terror from the deep and made it next gen only that would certainly speed my decision to step up from my 360.
A proper in depth console version of Civilization might too.
I got a PS3 for the uncharted series mainly
