How to do the internet
someone help me please. I've just moved and Virgin cable isn't available but through the phone it still is - will this be any good? I was going to try BT's fibre thingy but it's an 18 month contract and we've only signed for 12 months.
BE need me to set up my phone line again, they said do it through the post office not BT then cancel after a month and transfer to them. Does that sound right? I saw Sky just bought them so lots of customers are cancelling, so should I not go with them? And what's wrong with Sky?!
Plusnet and EE look alright. Are they alright?
It's got to be fast and unlimited as there's 4 of us on it all the time...

regarding being unlimited: read the small print on the contract
if there is a "fair use" policy (like virgin) then fuck em, it means they can throttle you and cut it off whenever you go over their arbitrary DLlimits.
I use talk talk and so far it has been unlimited.
*Download limits
I've always been with virgin and their policy was fine
but I don't know what it means when they say I can only get it through my phone and not cable in the new place - as in how slow it might be.
It's taken me hours so far to look through everything and I'm still no closer to a decision as I think I've found something then I find bad reviews and change my mind. There'll always be bad reviews though.
when I was on cable they were fine
but on ADSL - awful, worst ever.
Virgin's ADSL service probably won't satisfy you
You must be able to get a 12-month contract on BT Infinity, no?
nope
18 month only, if we cancel at 12 months we have to pay £14.80 for each remaining month of the contract :/
this may not help.....
...as i don't know your situation but you can usually take your broadband with you so if you had to move house after 12 months you could keep the contract going at the new place til it ends
yeahI thought that
but if I moved out it'd likely be into a room in a houseshare rather than another empty house so it'd be unnecessary. Sorted it now anyway, fingers crossed it works. Now I just have to wait 10 days to be online :/ Could really do with a phone at least for the next week, oh well, will get loads of reading done at least
Sky's internet's really good.
Their customer service is shite and they're not that cheap, but you can't really fault their service.
Im on talk talk
ridiculously cheap (as I paid the 12 months up front) and never had a problem with connection or speedand is totally unlimited as far as I see. Did have an issue with initial connection but that was it.
probably didnt need to this that but hey ho
I read and heard some bad things about them
but after about 4 hours of messing around online I looked at a broadband speed checker in the area and they were the ones the most consistent in higher speeds in my area compared to some others I'd been tempted by whose speeds were showing really high in some parts but then really bad in others.
If they're a pain to set up I don't really care anymore. I just wasted my only free day for a week, stupid internet
plusnet are pretty good.
