returning stuff to shops

like an unwearably large item of clothing

are they allowed to say no refund exchange or store credit only?

I was sure you were always allowed a refund if the goods were good but this receipt says credit or exchange only

if I'm a big enough nobhead will I get the cash back?

  • you're not entitled to a refund

but many retailers will offer you one.

Your best bet is to be nice and explain that it is an unwanted gift and please could you get your money back. No degree of nobbery will get you a refund.

You're entitled to a refund if; the item is not as described (the box says blue but the item is red when you unpack it), it is not in a satisfactory condition (ripped shirt, missing button) or it is not fit for purpose (bike bursts into flames after only mild usage).

I'm currently writing a guide to the sale of goods act 1979 for work, so your query is topical for me.
