are any of these worth bothering with?
which is the best?
They're all ok, and a lot better than they were a year ago, but still just ok. I use LoveFilm because that way I can at least get DVDs of stuff I want.
if you sign up for a free trial at Lovefilm, that's what I did. Only for new customers, though. Lovefilm was good, I never used their streaming service so can't comment on that.
I've not used the other two.
they have most of the Sky stuff months before the others anyway.
They can be a bit slow bringing out new releases considering they are a RENTAL company and you can buy the DVDs about 3-6 months before LoveFilm has them ready to rent.
and it's not always that long. Looper for instance came out late January, and they had it from the middle of this month.
in the same way Blockbuster were, either.)
But very definitely a rental company.
I just mean that they don't have differing price points for new and old releases.
then why can't they rent them at the same time?
of the time and the post back-new send thing is always good. I usually rent big blockbusters and crap action-thrillers from LoveFilm and give the DVDs to my dad to watch too and so a lot of my rentals are watched twice and so I get value for money. No complaints as a LoveFilm user. Although, I've not used the other companies that you mentioned as a comparison.
At work we had a presentation about it and everyone agreed it's shit and even though we get it for free nobody takes it up. You have to pay £15 a month to get access to a library of films no bigger than the titles you get with Sky Go/On Demand. There isn't much in the way of a back catalogue beyond the expected big hits, and anything really new costs you extra over and above your basic subscription. TV is still a couple of months off, and they haven't decided how deep in to the catalogue they're willing to go so you might end up just watching Arrow and that Tesco sitcom.
If you want TV streaming, Netflix is the best. If you want film streaming, it's a toss up between Netflix and LoveFilm. I can't stream in any decent quality so I go for LoveFilm 'cause I'm DVD old school and they have a ridiculously strong library of obscure DVDs. You can pick your contract based on how much you think you'll use it and take payment breaks whenever you want.
I've just signed up for a free trial of NowTV. The selection is bullshit, there's no app for my phone, nor my Nexus 10, nor the Wii, so I'll have to watch shit on my laptop. The selection is bloody awful as well.
LoveFilm for films.
Lovefilm Instant is awful though, they have hardly anything!
particularly TV shows
Last time they didn't have really obvious things like Pulp Fiction.
Netflix for TV shows, the films don't get updated half as much. If you can, use something like unblock.us so you can get access to the US content as well. Lovefilm is OK, they update their films on a monthly basis, NowTv is pretty shit unless you only watch kids movies and blockbusters.
I wouldn't sign up though. I ordered Raging Bull and they sent War Horse.
It's for watching tv shows on my ipad in bed and it's my favourite thing. The new It's alsways sunny is just out. They're also going to have Arrested Development new series in May <33333
but cracked for the US version. That's the best, and it's quite easy to do.
