cartoons whose characters age in real time...
have there ever been any?
was thinking last night when watching a really terrible episode of the Simpsons that Bart should probably have a steady job, beard and a couple of littluns by now.
i mean, i understand why it's not common, but just wondered if it ever happens, like.

In 2000AD, the comic...
...Judge Dredd ages in real time I believe.
Dredd's world operates more or less in real time
in that the years progress equally, although week-to-week doesn't quite meet up because then the stories would make no sense
Indeed
The old fella is knocking on a bit these days...
I wonder what they'll do when he starts getting implausibly old
he's got to be pushing 60 easily
I haven't read it for years...
...but I think they had a story where he turned down the chief judge role, offered as he was getting too old for the street. Presumably the writers could keep making him more bionic, before eventually having a story about him retiring to judge the cursed earth.
He already took the Long Walk (in secret)
but returned when his replacement (Kraken) was corrupted by the Dark Judges and helped them execute 60 million people in the Necropolis storyline.
You are obviously way more up on the story than I am!
I'm basing my knowledge purely on scanning Wikipedia after seeing the film last year - probably not a great substitute for 15 years of storyline.
Necropolis was probably 20 years ago now
so they could easily do a 'proper' Long Walk story with him.
The first time, they didn't even tell the readers it had happened. There was a Dredd strip and a 'Deadman' strip - Dredd in the Dredd strip was a clone and 'Deadman' was the persona Dredd had during his time in the Cursed Earth. It was only during the Necropolis story that the two strips merged and it was revealed that Dredd had left MC1 in secret and was now coming back to save it.
it's hard to put an age on Dredd as he's a clone and was grown in a tank
He was grown to age 5 in the tank, pulled out in 2066, and graduated the Academy in 2079. The first strip picks up in 2099, so he'd already had twenty years on the street now. That was 35 years ago, so he's looking at being physically in his early 70s.
But, you know, THE FUTURE. Dredd has some pretty far out and often inconsistent technology levels.
Dogtanian definitely looked older in the later shows
Fry's dog
:(
King of the Hill's characters age, though not in real time.
Joseph starts off the same height as Bobby, but gets taller and has a little Gary Neville moustache a few series in!
the flash-forward simpsons episodes are always the worst though
except lisa's wedding, but then i think a lisa spin-off show would be the best ever
Lisa's Wedding date was August 2010
is that real
or is it like when people share the date from the time machine in back to the future and its been fake every tiem?

100000s of anime
I have this same thought when watching Bobs Burgers
there would be so much more material to mine if they followed the kids all through school and beyond rather than being stuck in time.
they're certainly hinting at them aging
but it's too early to tell, I sure hope so!
Futurama is a bit weird like this
time definitely passes (Fry wakes up in 3000, in episodes broadcast in 2000, and in first movie from 2008 it's now 3008) but nobody seems to age. But, you know, THE FUTURE.
although weirdly in that same first movie
the Fry who spent 10 years back living in 2000 aged horribly
i think that's just a clunky plot device
so are you saying it's some kind of magic xylophone?
What you got there, numbers?
the was a kids show called something like
The Weekenders where they all aged and changed their clothing like real kids would rather than wearing the same outfit every week like a regular cartoon character
What a pain in the fucking cunt to draw
Finn from Adventure Time grows older every year.
In Love And Rockets the characters age in Gilbert and Jaimes
So people who started off as teenagers are in their 40s now.
Dragonball Z
That's twice I've been able to post that in two days, feels good
