Travelling/moving city/changing job/etc
*know someone who has
*makes me wonder if I could
Don't go to the fire thingy come for a drink this evening :) I'm feeling philisophical*
Although... something something ... getting wet, massive hose... helmet. YEAH.
I wish I oculd come and get drunk but i'll be working till 9 and then going home to drink a bottl eo f actifed/ night nurse. x
started on the drink
Were you drunk?
sounds like tesco could use your advice!!!!
and got myself a mediocre office job.
0 days since....
but am too much of a wimp
too scared that i'll fuck it up
i'm a very doubtful man
"your mum!" etc etc
Quit my joba nd moved to a city I'd never been before and only knew 1 person. Worked out ok. I wouldnt recommend it if you need loads of friends around you all the time
though it was made slightly easier for me by getting made redundant in my job in Leeds...
Still, that counts, right?
I'd like to give up my job/career and become a brewer. Not sure that will ever happen though...
easier said than done of course
I'd quit my job, split up with my long term girlfriend and found a new place to live.
Left the city behind for the study of law. Just finding my feet at a small firm, looking at what to study for the next 4+ years...
I'm glad I made the move though, for the 9:30 start and lunch break if nothing else.
i just need to decide where.
Come on, everyone's doing it. Come via south america. Let's scare some bears.
quit everything and went travelling for 18 months. Quit everything with no plan, still working that out 3 years later but I'm very happy just doing bar work whilst other things happen
you always seem to eb doing awesome things
There's lots of lows though - I don't get paid for anything I do (except the bar job, obvs) so I have no money and I don't see friends much as a consequence etc but I think in terms of what I do day to day I'm very lucky and really happy :D
Don't fucking tempt me.
although at teh time I tohught it was a short-term secondment, so I didn't really take the plunge as such (even if I knew deep down that I was setting off ona tangent that was probably going to pull me away for a while.) Now that I'm going home for a bit, it feels weird- it doesn't so much feel as going home, but as another fresh start. I like fresh starts :) At some point 'll stop running though. I feel like i'm nearly ready to do that. (FRIENDS, PLEASE COME WITH ME.)
and doing fuck loads of work on my own stuff.
you can get a lot down in 2 months.
waaaaah, the ignomy! I suspect I'll manage to last a few weeks, then go and stay at my mate's cottage for a bit and then go away to the sun, and then hopefully by the time we get to mid-May, I can have something ni the pipelin work-wise, and start shelling out for my own place without feeling like the most stupid risktaker in the world. Sometimes you have to do something a little bit eurrrgh to get to where you wnat to be.
Just do it chris!
i'm in SUCH a rut at work here.
My dad is going away for a couple of months so I'm thinking I might go back then. He is really annoying - I don't think I would get anything done if he was around! ha!
I very occasionally go back for a weekend to get some stuff done - just not having to cook, or clean, or go food shopping and all that just saves so much time.
I have to call her tonight so I might discuss this.
i should stop being a wimp
and your mum might appreciate the company?
You should float the idea and see what she says- what's your notice period at work? And when does your dad go off?
i think i have to give a month? ish - i don't know.
He'll go in the summer sometime I think
I'm going to find out tonight - this might actually be a kindof plan
I only have a kindof plan, I realy ought to get a proper plan soon, but ANYWAY, this is about you not me.
You can use teh lead in time to you leaving in the summer to do some business development (I presume you'll be doing freelancing type stuff) and set up some work for you to do.
Worked in Australia for 18 months
Worked in Germany for 6 months
Quite my last permanent job and went travelling for 9 months - last permanent job was 10 years ago; going self-employed was probably the best decision I've made.
Various consultancy, mainly for financial service organisations.
I was miserable in my old career (finance) and was thinking about making a change when my long-term GF broke up with me. It was the kick I needed to decide 'fuck it' so I packed in the job just as I was getting offered promotions and money and now I'm in debt and a student again.
It's not great, but I am happier that at least I'm giving something I feel is worthwhile a try. If it doesn't work out, I've not burned my bridges and all I will have lost is money and time. I'm gonna lose those things in one way or another anyway, so I reckon it's all good. I didn't want to look back at my mid-20s and see the end of one relationship marking the time when I submitted to the daily grind. That was too grim for words.
and moved to London.
Your boyfriend was your job?
I'm trying to decide what to do when I go back to Uni in Sep.
Be prepared to wake up to alot of pringles shoved under your door
Are you going in as an under- or postgraduate? If the former, I highly advise not to live in halls unless you can get them to give you a place in the postgrad ones.
PS, exciting! Where are you off to? What are you studying>
Given up alcohol, might give up my band, thinking about changing jobs,.
(operator for big IBM mainframes)
and Id brought a house with 2 work chums, we'd actually brough it off our boss.
But me and my gf wanted to travel so I left work and just handed over the house (or the liability as I saw it then) to the other 2.
Unfortunately rather than getting a contracting job in amsterdam, our caravanet (ford escort mk1) got broken into and so my pathetic gf did not want to stay there (although with my not speaking other languages well it was my best hope.
So we moved on and just did a grand tour of europe 6 weeks, stopping in laybyes.
Came back to the UK and had to find a job for dosh, quickly, so I started contracting around the country. Guildford and BOC first then moved to london and stayed in a squat in camden, then found a couple of people i liked the look of (kirsten had black spikey hair and liked the cure.....I got a good feeling off her) and broke our own squat in islington (offord road) (5 floors), Me and my mate marting then moved to stoke newington and broke a flat squat in clissold estate.
So yeah I suppose so. It was a good change though.......really needed it otherwise things would have been too boring
Except PO of course.
just paid my deposit for a house in chorlton. I guess deciding to move hundreds of miles away to be with someone I'd been seeing for less than 4 months was a big deal, in retrospect. Moved to a country with a different language and stuff. yeah, dunno. my life could be a lot more stable than it is currently but I get bored a lot.
probably the most organised thing I've ever done
one 20 minute phone call a week to my parents and posting here are my only personal connections to the UK.
