Stoker on the 1st, Soderbergh's Side Effects on the 8th, then Danny Boyle's Trance on the 27th.
especially after Jee-woon Kim announced himself to Hollywood with The Last Stand.
I mean it's creepy as fuck, but it's gorgeously shot. I felt really tense and uncomfortable watching it though, it had a really physical effect on me. Also, the wardrobe is incredible.
and some really turd ones
kind of torn
Could be fun.
i thought it was a little disappointing
had me thinking of Thirst....which wasnt that great tbh
but it isn't going to be amazing. Should be fun, though.
and thought it was utterly brilliant. The best film I've seen at the cinema for quite some time. I'd imagine it'll divide people a lot though. It totally foregrounds atmosphere and style over plot (or rather subsumes the plot with style) but I don't mean that to be a negative. Some films are sensory experiences rather than narrative, and this is shimmering, precision filmmaking. It's beautifully put together, the cast is impeccable, it seduces and repels in equal measure.
As mentioned above, tonally it's probably closest to Thirst of his back catalogue, but I really enjoyed Thirst so that was a boon for me. It's arch but not detached. Difficult to describe, really. Anyway, I loved it.
Clint Mansell can do no wrong in my eyes.
