Tips for sneaky Internet browsing at work
So, as it currently stands, my work PC screen is just within sight range of an old man. I really doubt he gives a shite about my near-constant DiS browsing, and I think he might be partially blind anyway; however I always feel a little uneasy about it.
Are there any apps or extensions to make the internet look less like the, uh, internet? I tired a black & white extension for Chrome but it didn’t really work. Can’t install Adblocker here. Plain-text browsing apps don’t seem to work either. Is there a DiS mobile site that would work on a regular PC? One without adverts and fancy colours, etc.?
What methods do others use for sneaky internet viewing when at work?

don't adblock. if DiS doesn't have ad revenue then that dubstep album will never get made
How so?
Like I have Adblocker at home but I would never click on the ads anyway. Can advertisers know how many people who visit a site have Adblocker and thus can't see the adverts?
no fucking clue, it was a joke
less exposure lower premium
Set up Outlook so you have
Toolbar on left hand side. Then on the right hand side you have the top half of the screen as your list of emails and the bottom half of your screen as the viewing pane.
Resize your browser window so it's the exact same size as the viewing pane in Outlook and move it over it. Stealth browsing par excellence.

i normally use a colourful spreadsheet but this works a treat
install opera
settings to b+w
set images to not show
bingo: DiS looks more like work than your actual work.
B+W?
You can make it black and white? How?
Shift-I for no images is brilliant - I wish all programs did this.
i can't remember
you can do this in firefox too
not with shift though
You can make it black and white? How?
Go to View -> Style -> High Contrast B/W
There are other styles here. Try to see what you need.
learn to alt-tab in a flash
Combining this with my technique above
guarantees results.
Ctrl+Tab followed by Alt+Tab and you're away
Ctrl+W is pretty useful too.

Yep, was about to mention that
print out threads and read them at your desk
Then scribble a manuscript response
And hand it to your secretary to type up and 'Post reply' on your behalf.
I've printed out pages from another forum in error
particularly magical when I've sent it to the plotter...
*PO's Mum's house.
a guy that I used to work with had a mirror on his monitor so he could see when people were walking up to his desk.
There was really no other reason for him to have it, I was surprised that he didn't get pulled up on it.
maybe they thought he was especially vain
Cheers all
I'm now leaning back in my chair all casual like after having downloaded Opera and used the no images setting. No more hunched shoulders and face held close to the screen interspersed with surreptitious glances over the shoulder. No sir.
install a small programme
that let's you right click the minimize button to minimize the window to the system tray, rather than the task bar.

Hide the browser (Opera) in a milisecond
Press Ctrl Alt Shift h
Opera will disappear instantly from taskbar & desktop and it will be minimized to traybar (near that clock).
You can change this combination if you want. I selected for example F10.
Go to Preferences -> Advanced -> Shortcuts
At Keyboard setup click Edit button
On the little search box write HIDE OPERA
Double click on the actual keys combination, enter your keys combination and confirm.
Kind of Boss Key ;)
Forgot to add
To bring the Opera window back, double click on the Opera icon from system tray.
The best thing: if you know some HTML + CSS you can make your own personalized User Styles.
You can hide parts of a site that you don't want to see again.
For example:
#header { display:none !important; }
...will hide the DiS header.
Plus Opera has a Block Content feature. Right click somewhere on the page and select Block Content. Hold Shift key and click on an element (usually Flash or pics). It will be blocked form appearing ever again. This could be undone.
However this Block Content feature is limited.
