Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Where do you fall in this - the idea is that you need the lower level ones before you can progress to the next level, although there are exceptions to this.
like so
http://www.simplypsychology.org/Hierarchyofneeds.jpg
1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc.
2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc.
3. Belongingness and Love needs - work group, family, affection, relationships, etc.
4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc.
5. Self-Actualization needs - realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.
less than 2% of people reach the illusive SELF ACTUALIZATION
i reckon i'm hobbling around the low to mid level 4 of needs.

Do you need to have all the XP to level up?
cos i've got some points from 4
but not all of 3
i THINK the idea is that you won't be particularly bothered about STEP 4
until you are fulfilled enough in STEP 3.
so... when you are homeless and hungry, sleeping in the gutter, you are not concerned that you are not more respected in the work place - you are concerned that you are well hungry and dead cold.
no
they are just a rough guide, you can miss out entire steps as well, that goes against the theory but it can be done.
so its like a multi-class system?
i don't know what that is
i'm saying, kindof
back and forth between 3 and 4 my whole life i reckon
most disers won't even have completed LEVEL ONE then
I dunno .... a little bit from each
this can fuck off.
A little bit of each from box 3, 4 and 5
I'm not sure how useful this is beyond the roughest of frameworks. However, if you are interested in these sort of ideas in a more practical sense, then Tribal Leadership is worth checking out.
did you just tell Maslow to fuck off?
I reject this crude hierarchy
My personal one has two levels: INTERNET and BOOBS.
you would definitely need the first level before you get access to the second
it's infallible
Self-actualisation usually requires time and money
That's me buggered then.
does it? interested to hear more about this (genuinely)
totes requires time
not money though i don't think
It's a while since I had did Maslow but
I remember thinking that stage 5 was about reaching such a point of comfort with life, work etc that the next step is philanthropy: charity work, voluntary work etc. Fair enough, not always about having cash but that makes it easier
*had did
hmmmm
i think that's the proposed next step
Transcendence needs - helping others to achieve self actualization.
Cool
i might be wrong tho
just started this as i'm doing something about it at work - i haven't studied it or anything, i'm not an authority!
Pretty sure this is a crock of shit
If you live in Scotland in winter then always being warm (level 1) is in itself a form of realising personal potential (level 5). See also sex (level 1) and self-fulfullment (level 5). Self-fulfillment clearly means having a wank, right Freud?
Also, why would you only start seeking personal growth when you had achieved all the other levels.
Rats and Stats, innit?
that's a bit poorly worded i think as the whole thing is about personal growth
thinking of five as being ALL YOU CAN BE.
remember when you were studying economics and someone would mix up milton friedman with maynard keynes and
say milton keynes. hahahahahahahahahahaha
this is dumb
did you just call Maslow dumb?
half of those words are so vague
maslow's a pure dick
did you just call Maslow a dick?
no way
:D
I remember this from A-level psychology
I thought it was balls then.
