Rudi (the Puma bro (Puma originally being Ruda)) convinced his brother Adi (of adidas fame) that the two of them should sign up to Hitler's wehrmacht as an act of patriotism (but really as a ruse to take over the business). When Adi reluctantly filled in the papers Rudi then binned his own application and sent off Adi's.
By a strange twist of clerical error Rudi ended up being called up and Adi didn't
it was after the war that Rudi set up his rival shoe company
Although the Air Max 90s have gone a bit shit recently in that the edges of the soles are painted if they aren't white and after a few wears they start cracking. Really not what you expect from a pair of £95+ trainers.
Bought both World Cups and Copa Mundials (the Copas ended up being more comfortable, just) and they crippled me. Nike boots and astros seem to fit me much better. Shame as World Cups are lovely to play in.
Adidas
aka Henry fans

at least that's how the legend goes
wasn't that the pope's excuse too?
what? that his brother coerced him into filling in the child sexual abuse application form?
I'm being glib of course
Adi Dassler made the first pair of spiked running shoes
For Jesse Owens
For the 1936 Olympics
He approached Owens specifically, telling him he was clearly the best runner and wanted him to represent his brand
they were lifelong friends after that
Adi Dassler genuinely seems like one of life's good guys
Nike
Simply for innovation and design and the Air Max 90s. Look how beautiful these are: http://www.peepculture.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/nike-air-max-90-neutral-grey-white-midnight-fog-total-orange.jpg
Also the Flyknits: http://footpatrol.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Nike-Flyknit-Collection-14.jpg

also i sent some drawings to adidas when i was a kid
("designed" some football boots) they sent me loads of stickers/key rings/badges/ and stuff.
great bunch of lads
Pair of Copa Mundials on hard turf...
ace.
Adidas stuff works far better in casual situations too, no competition.
My wide feet feet struggle with Adidas boots and astros
