Is 30 young by popular musician standards nowadays?
no, it's really old.
The music industry isn't a profession.
I hate people in stupid job who refer to themselves as 'professionals'.
alright cat_race
alright
:D
Bizarre.
I know a few of the names on the extended list, only one of whom you'd actually consider to be 'successful'. The others barely scrape by.
I know a couple on the main list through mutual friends. If this is the cream of the crop under 30 in the music industry then no wonder it's headed down the swanny.
I bet they download music for free
and/or just get by on promos and guestlist
so much for supporting music you vice reading cunts
The only person on that list I know,
is 34.
where did evil sean adams place
or his he as old as time itself?
Over achieving cunts
fair play that they've all blagged themselves into important sounds jobs and that
but some of the acts that this article boasts about are fucking horrendous - like you could easily imagine accidently the same list on a different site being presented as The Top 30 People Who Are Ruining Music For Everyone
They'll all have nice job titles but be earning £23k.
^pretty much this, sadly
The ones who work in the live sector or are running their own promotions companies will be doing well, but anyone at a label or publisher will hardly be raking it in. Combined with the fact that labels/publishers have been constantly 'streamlining' for the past 10 years, their chances of moving up the ladder probably aren't all that bright either. That said, they've done well to get where they are already.
I'd rather earn that
that my actual salary which is much larger (fucking minted me) but I do job in an industry I have no interest in whatsoever.
Ah, but you're equating working in an industry you're interested in
A friend who loved music, who wanted to spend his life doing it, got a job doing PR for a record label. He hated doing PR, realized that just because he was in the record business didn't mean he had anything at all to do with music. Instead of finding a job he could love, he ended up being in proximity to, but nowhere involved with, something he cared about. I wish he had become a committed school teacher instead, spending every minute of his spare time making music and sharing it online for free. Instead, he's a frazzled publicity hound working twice as many hours for less money and doing no music at all.
Ugh, quotes destroyed most of that post.
It was supposed to read...
Ah, but you're equating working in an industry you're interested in to doing a job that you enjoy and that gives you satisfaction. I know from firsthand experience that this isn't always the case.
See here for an opinion that I largely agree with: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2012/12/doing-what-you-love-but-maybe-you-cant-get-paid-for-it.html
