What is the most valuable thing you own?
Just been told that a painting I was given the very first edition of a few months go had two of the subsequent editions (from a very limited run) sell at auction last night for about 15 times what mine was bought for. It stands to reason that my painting would sell for more. So now I know it's only a matter of time until I rip it or somehow throw tea at it.
What is the most valuable thing you own? You can say a house or car if you want, but I'd prefer we excluded them because they're boring. I also don't want to hear any sentimental pussy crap. I'm talking cash value here.

I have a signed copy of Mother Night
but the real answer is probably some piece of technology like my computer or xbox360
at time of purchase for each separate element
my drumkit. but i've had it all years now and it's not been that well looked after.
hah! could have guessed you were a drummer!
because it actually takes some skill
Either a piece of the Belrin wall (some crazy low & high prices on ebay though)
Or one of the limited edition LotR models from GW. Sold a couple before I moved for about £100 each. My telecasters been through the wars, so thats worth zip
car
I will tolerate this response
so long as you're referring to the car's cash value, and not sentimental attachment.
She means everything to me
Dunno what I'd do if she died
probably my ps3
lame
I have a tonne of 19th century copies of Keats and Wordsworth and Byron and stuff at my parents house
Is all in really good condition. That might be worth a fair bit.
Or my ipad
How embarrassing.
Book prices are massively variable.
Unless they're some sort of first printing or contain interesting errata, they may not be worth all that much. I bet they're lovely though.
My virginity.
Some dirty sheik would probably pay a fortune to bone me.
it WAS my 21st birthday diamond necklace
but it got ripped off my neck last week in poland by some thieving bastards
:-(
Commiz
*Commies
My wife
Again, I will tolerate this response
so long as you're referring to your wife's cash value, and not sentimental attachment.
Is it too much to ask for BOTH?
How much is she insured for?
Scan of the insurance schedule or gtfo.
well the mortgage gets paid off I think
KERCHING!
cushty
say no more
Awww
this is lovely. Well done
Wait, you think you OWN your wife?
You asbolute bastard
well duh!
she took the vows
My £2000 Mac Pro.
was it expensive
you don't get editions of paintings
*shakes head*
Well I don't fucking know what you call them.
What do you call them? He did a sketch and then painted that sketch a few times. I got the first one, with all that certificate of authentication stuff made out to me specifically.
ha ha you got art wrong!
:(
I just wanted an art of my own
and now look at you
know your place Daniel. Art is not for the likes of us.
Should look into photocopying it
would save him loads of time
the original or first of a series
FINE, I HAVE THE ORIGINAL
Fuck all of you, I'm going back to drinking Fosters, eyeing up birds and shouting the word 'OI' repeatedly and arbitrarily
calm down Sewell
just trying to be helpful
OI OI OI
(Thanks)
I have a very expensive grand cru that I was given as a present
Which is worth around 200€ at present (though in the grand scale that's nothing for wine). It will continue to become more and more valuable in the years to come though... I don't have many expensive things, I spend money on expensive consumables.
Otherwise would've been my laptop but she's getting a bit old these days. So probably my iPad. Sad life.
Though I suspect the total value of my books and music accumulated over the years would comfortably exceed the value of everything else I have every owned or will own.
ipad
what's a half kilo ingot of 24k gold worth these days?
probably that
actually doesn't seem to be worth /that/ much
still, that's probably my answer as you can't really count my half of our flat cos there's still 23 years left on the mortgage
I have an Elvis LP
his first British one on HMV, worth £500 in mint condition. Unfortunately it isn't, it is minus a cover and is scratched but plays kinda OK. Pretty lucky find in a massive box of mouldy Neil Diamond compliations in a friend's Dad's shed. Other than that I don't really have expensive tastes or much luck, so it is the standard house, car, laptop, phone and not a lot else.
drum kit
or guitar amp
my boat
my cock

Probably the car in pure cash value
but maybe also the engagement ring i bought my fiancee.
My books and CDs will have cost me thousands over the years, though arguably are worth very little now.
Just looked up a couple of signed first editions I have (Jonathan Franzen's Freedom, with errors, and Philip Pullman's Amber Spyglass), and they're worth fuck all.
So probably my laptop, with was about £350. I'm actually quite glad I don't own anything worth nicking.
our friendship
the power of imagination
My PC
or my Gibson Custom Shop ES-335.
its the gibson
your PC wont hold its value
I only built the PC
a few months ago though, so if I sold both today I reckon I'd get more for the computer.
fairpoint
well made
Mona Simpson XL print by Nick Walker
Bought for £100 6 or 7 years ago, I saw one for sale for £1100 last week. Kerr-Ching. :)
probably my DiS share portfolio
Copyright to coffee table book of photos of Theo on various pub shitters
can that form part of the Dis Kickstarter pledge gifts?
I have a first edition of Mercian Hymns by Geoffrey Hill
Think that is worth £300-400 on a good day.
some kind of deathclock
A big lump of that whale vomit/poo stuff
Dunno what it's called, ambergain or something. That recent news story reminded me that my Dad has it in his attic back at the family home. He showed it to me years ago, he found it on a Cornish beach I think near to where he grew up. Hasn't mentioned it since but at the time he said I could have it if i want, but it has to remain in the attic.
Anyone have any idea if it's still worth anything? Must be at lease 30 years old, maybe older.
ambergris
used in perfume, but has largely been replaced by synthetics.
price depends on the quality of it, but could be around $10-20 per gram.
Wow, Ambergris then.
The lump was huge, but then I was small at the time. Must be at least several kilos, I couldn't even lift the thing. Gonna phone my Dad tonight and ask him about it, haha.
fucking hell, kilos!
good luck dude. remember the little guys ;)
Where do you live again?
he's probably already sold it and bought a rocket car and a solid gold house
you just haven't noticed
Outside of our house (which is owned by the bank anyway),
I've not really got anything of value. A few electronic goods that will have depreciated, a few art prints that may have appreciated, and one or two of the CDs, LPs and 7-inches that might have gone up in value.
I used to think that the most valuable one was the Apes/Les Savy Fav/ Mars Volta tour CD from about 10 years ago, but then it turns out that an old Kings Of Convenience EP is worth a lot too.
I dunno. It's probably my Star Wars toys.
I wouldn't leave all of that stuff outside of your house if I were you
I was going to make a joke about the most valuable thing outside of our house
being a plant pot, but I thought that was lame, even for me.
no, it says THE Bart, THE
where do you live again?
Paradise.
My DiS shares
My face is my fortune
I have a large amount of boxed Return Of The Jedi-era Star Wars toys in the attic at my Mum's
which I've always said I'll sort out and sell but have yet to get around to being arsed to, largely because I know my Mum won't know how to deal with the postage and I live 400 miles away. Taken collectively that's probably the most in cash value. I don't really have anything expensive. My TV and my bass guitar were probably the most expensive when bought new but depreciation etc. I have high hopes for my Tim Doyle Simpsons screen print from his Unreal Estate show though, it's roughly quadrupled from what I bought it for about a year ago.
I have a Tim Doyle (am I doing art right now?)
This one.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z471/posterocalypse/Posters/TimDoyleStayOffTheMoorsRegular.jpg
that reminds me
I have a Julian Opie self portrait
anyone have any idea how much that's worth?
no one have any idea on this?
Nuff money
roughly how much
5k?
25k?
75k?
can't seem to get any idea from looking at actions as he hasn't really sold anything quite like it
auctions*
ffs
I love that print! I found one going on ebay for about £50 a year or two ago but didn't go for it. Regret it now.
I have this:
http://411posters.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/doyle-embiggen.jpg
I also bought my girlfriend this one:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FqxgZIBg_uU/Tnqeb43KM9I/AAAAAAAANhk/VUrLWGFJtW0/s1600/Twin+Peaks+Screen+Print+by+Tim+Doyle.jpg
for her birthday last year
My mate bought a couple of things from this year's Unreal Estate 2 last week, he bought this:
http://store.spoke-art.com/collections/tim-doyles-unreal-estate/products/tim-doyle-good-news-everybody
And, absolutely insanely, put down $500 on this:

I'm a big fan of his work, but not £350-odd worth. More money than sense, that boy.
(Excluding house and car)
either my sofa or my Orange Rockerverb.
I've got original pieces by...
...Jimmy Cauty, Billy Childish and Bill Drummond - not sure if any of them are actually worth more than I paid for them though (think the Billy Childish might be since he seems to be a recognised painter these days).
Boring answer - I have four thousand Prudential shares.
dunno
aside from telly/car/house/cameras etc
a banksy print that was free
the juvenes numbered edition book
signed douglas adams books
test match ticket with lara, murali & andy flowers sigs on it (lara wrote i've always admired your googlies)
loads of rare new order stuff like signed copy of the gatefold susbstance (given to factory employees only), signed cdv of true faith, complete set of 7 egg/proccession singles, technique dat, fac150sp etc
jamie hewlett signed gorillaz print
abbey road first press with misaligned apple on back
pj harvey dry vinyl with free demo album
Probably my racing bike
Built it up and spent £3800 doing so.
My dad has a factory pressing of Tattoo You by The Rolling Stones still in it's factory sleeve, signed by all the band and their manager at the time. Think that might be worth something.
the rolling stones weren't on factory ;-)
is it a white label?
Honestly no idea
It might just be a normal pressing in a factory sleeve. haven't seen it in ages. He might have even sold it.
Car
TV
Laptop
Your mum
probs some paintings by Dr Edward Wilson (from the Scott of the Antarctic expedition)
and a signed book from Scott........people seem to lap that shit up
Viola
by quite a large margin
Signed first edition of A History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell.
Very good condition. No dust jacket (although I'm not sure there was one to begin with). Probably worth a fair bob.
My dad's got loads of incredibly valuable, rare angling books that no one would know about unless you're really into eel or carp fishing.
Apart from that at my parents place there's a 17th century grandfather clock made by some legendary horologist called Phillip Avenell - apparently it's worth five figures. His dad found it in a skip and restored it.
Pretty sure German Nan's got a load of Nazi gold in her loft.
Basically the clock looks a bit like this - Avenell was 18th century:

The company!
my guitars
my watch
Probably the factory.
The fixtures and fittings alone are probably worth around £30k.
what's the difference between a fixture and a fitting?
a fixture's more permanent and unlikely to be removed, such as lighting, bathroom suites, cupboards, etc.
Fittings can be anything from everyday machinery/equipment, to curtains, to desks, etc. Stuff that tends to be removed or not removed to the buyer/renter's requirements.
Glad to help.

I don't actually own my flat anyway. The bank owns a lot of it.
And if we exclude my wife as being 'sentimental pussy crap', I'd guess the TV's the most valuable thing in our home, given it's the most recent electrical purchase. Everything else will have devalued massively.
I don't know whether to be appalled I basically reposted what marckee put
or glad that I managed to post it in a more concise way.
