ongoing 2013 boxing thread...
Decent card on Sky tonight for the non-bedwetters on here. Carl Frampton v Kiko Martinez, Lee Selby v Martin Lindsay, and Andy Lee currently labouring v Anthony Fitzgerald.
Think Frampton will be too good for Martinez, who's a tricky enough operater but who lost twice on decision to Rendell Munroe. Selby v Lindsay could be a real tear-up, probably the two top featherweights in Britain. Lindsay in particular's been involved in some real brawls.
Should be a guddun.
Upcoming fights:
17/2 - Adrien Broner v Gavin Rees
23/2 - David Price v Tony Thompson, Prizefighter Heavyweights
9/3 - Darren Barker v TBA, Carson Jones v Lee Purdy
16/3 - George Groves, Nathan Cleverly, Ricky Burns
21/3 - Billy Joe Saunders v Matty Hall
23/3 - James DeGale v TBA, Chris Eubank Jr v TBA
30/3 - Tony Bellew v Isaac Chilemba, Derry Matthews v Anthony Crolla
6/4 - Wladimir Klitchko v TBA
27/4 - Sergio Martinez v Martin Murray, Paulie Malignaggi v Shane Mosley
28/4 - Danny Garcia v Zab Judah
4/5 - Floyd Mayweather v Robert Guerrero, Saul Alvarez v TBA
25/5 - Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler

Broner's an absolute beast, eh?
I love him. Proper little shit.
If I were Ricky Burns I wouldn't go anywhere near him.
Word is Broner doesn't really want much of Burns either...
despite his constant call-outs.
He's huge at the weight, Broner. Think he'd beat Burns up, though i do see why Burns should take the fight, it'd be a huge payday and no outcome bar a savage KO would harm his reputation, really.
Wouldn't surprise me if Broner went through the weights. Can see him quickly dominating at lightwelterweight (though i would like to see him fight Brandan Rios), and even welterweight, still probably the best division, but stacked with fighters getting to the tipping points of their careers.
Blimey.
Mayweather's signed a 6-fight $250m deal with Showtime. Can't see him having that many more fights. Not sure who he'll face. Robert Guerrero's the first one anyway. Maybe Tim Bradley, Alvarez or Rios, Manny Pacquaio, Austin Trout & Devon Alexander? Wouldn't be surprised if a British guy got in there somewhere.
Nonito Donaire, probably the P4P #1 nowadays, is going to fight Guillermo Rigondeaux, who's very highly rated. Could be fight of the year, that.
Tyson Fury's got his American debut as well, against Steve Cunningham.
David Price, plus Prizefighter this weekend.
boxer comes saying all doping should be legal
:/ cant say I agree
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/21531723
he must have been very excited by that press conference
BOOOOOM!
Tyson Fury wouldn't have walked onto that.
Glassus Chinnus.
big fan of Fury
As much of a dick as he is
Christ, David Price knocked out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCCxnP4Nf9E
Good card on Sky.
Decent fight just gone. Purdy, Groves and Barker all on, admittedly against easily-mathced opponents.
http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=193932&part=sports
Abraham v Stieglitz is lookin' a bit tasty...
http://boxingguru.eu/gurutv1.html
it's all over
HEEEY YOU GUYYYYYS
decent card on Sky tonight...
http://boxingguru.eu/gurutv1.html
Tony Bellew v Isaac Chilemba, M62 grudge rematch between Derry Matthews v Anthony Crolla, plus young prospects Kal Yafai, Tom Stalker and Callum Smith.
BellEND more like, oioi!
Haven't paid much attention to the boxing recently but I'm gonna watch this, Yafai is fucking awesome
i've grown to like Bellew.
thought he was a bit of a comedy character early on, but warmed to him after he had a bit of a cry after losing to Cleverly. he's proven himself to be a very good fighter, arguably borderline world class. huge test for him tonight, though. hope he comes through it. deserves a big payday. would really like to see him in with someone like Lucien Bute.
I'd say tonight is a 50/50 fight
Chilemba has the speed, but Bellew has the reach and has a marginally better record against marginally opposition. Chilemba really cannot bang at this standard (though now I've said that he'll probably knock TB out) so I'd go for Bellew.
The undercard looks interesting too, especially Jezza Dickens's progress
Bloody hell, Fielding is a very good boxer already.
But Wayne Reed is a tough bastard.
Crolla/Matthews has been great.
He's never in a bad fight, Crolla. Absolute warrior.
Fight of the Year, again.
Gave it Crolla by a round, but no complaints with the draw.
LOL at Bellew's entrance
I hope he gets chinned
o_O
Audley Harrison's fighting this guy...

How many seconds do we think it'll go?
Did anyone See Rios Alvarado II?
As good as, if not better than I. Looks like there'll be a 3rd coming up soon if the post fight interview was anything to go by!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J0H_uK0o2Q&feature=youtu.be
Looks like the new Ward / Gatti to me. Great fighters both of them. Would like to see Broner in with them when he finally moves up in weight.
Still to see it.
Would be greatful if anyone knows of any online highlights. Couldn't find much on Youtube. Rios can be a bit of a bell, and by all accounts most people scored it for Alvarado. Apparently they want to hold off for the rubber match for a while.
Crolla/Matthews was brilliant again, and the scoring seemed to vary amongst fans. Again, they don't seem to want to jump straight into a third fight. I gave it Crolla by two rounds, but some gave it Matthews by as much as four.
I've got a lot of time for Casillo/Corrales, and obviously Morales/Barrera.
This is ok for a free stream
http://sosoboxing.com/boxing-video-watch-online/brandon-rios-vs-mike-alvarado-2/
Still have to watch the Crolla Matthews fight
as with you, i am a big fan of Crolla's style and attitude, and he always comes across and knowledgable and thoughtful when he's being a pundit.
Morales Barrera were amazing, and Castillo / Carrales, agreed. Hope you enjoy Rios Alvarado.
Some interesting fights tonight...
Liam Walsh should finish Scott Harrison off, Dereck Chisora's return, Nathan Cleverly trying to get his stalling career back on track, Brian Rose in action, Tyson Fury's big US test, then later on Canelo Alvarez v Austin Trout.
Gonna call shocks in the Fury/Cunningham and Alvarez/Trout fights.
Chisora interesting?
He's an embarrassment more than anything.
(Waits to be told I don't know what I'm talking about)
you don't have to post in every thread.
this three-monthly missing in action/tedious spammer thing you do is pretty annoying.
Well I enjoy boxing so I thought I'd contribute.
Fair enough, though.
Lovely lovely Brian lovely Rose.
Excited to see Lee Selby.
Little shit, but certainly has talent.
Hmmm, bit of a mismatch in the Callum Smith fight
Doesn't really help his development dropping a guy in the 2nd.
Christ, Fury looks fucking rubbish.
Well done Fury.
Great fight, if you don't enjoy technical proficiency.
decent punch that.
although i cant help but feel that fury would get absolutely butched by a proper opponent.
proper opponent as in?
there are't any bar the big two. that's how bad heavyweight boxing is. the entire rest of the top ten are puddings. look at them - Thompson, Solis, Adamek, Banks, Tompson, David Haye, etc, etc.
Haye would destroy Fury.
Nah.
50/50 fight. Haye's been found out at the highest level as well. Neither are top fighters. Besides, he's too busy being an apparent celebrity.
It's a moot point really, neither man would gain much from the fight, and it would be too big a risk for both too.
Though personally I'd guess Haye would be the victor, unless he's got very old very quickly since Del Boy.
Haye's extraordinarily overrated.
Great cruiserweight in his day, but his heavyweight career has spanned five years, and five of his six fights have been against complete numpties. The one time he fought a genuine, live, world class opponent he was mercilessly schooled for twelve rounds and blamed it on his little toe. Could he catch Fury, sure. Could he tough it out with him for twelve rounds after being so inactive? Not sure.
come off it, the Versace model would bury him
maybe.
but i think i'd back Fury.
i remember getting laughed off the boards for suggesting Fury would beat Price, now one of them's on the verge of a world title fight and the other's career's over if he can't beat a 40-year-old flabby donkey.
Haye's been taken seriously for a title fight and was embarassed
will they even acknowledge fury?
Well...
i'd say Fury already has a bigger profile in the US than Haye, so that'd be one reason for them to, yeah.
I never got the impression they saw Haye as a dangerous opponent, though. He has a big following from the UK, both in terms of travelling fans and PPV buyers. They knew they could fill out a football stadium in Germany, shift a couple of million sales on BoxNation, earn a quick buck and dismantle a mediocre opponent at the same time. The only people taking him seriously were people here, really, both fans who bought the hype and the boxing writers who convinced them he was ever world class.
I must stress at this point that i'm saying either of them would beat Fury routinely, but that's because he wouldn't run, which is effectively the only tactic Haye's ever had at the weight against anything half-decent.
Haye, a likely winner no but a credible opponent yes.
that was some pretty schoolboy stuff from cunningham at the end there. a bit of craft in the ring and he'd win on points no prblem after sitting the big fella down.
But who knows as you've already pointed out there's not much between fury and the klitchkos
Yeah, but as you've said yourself, Fury isn't a *genuine, live, world class opponent*
he's a an enormous brawler who has brilliant power. Haye would just stick and move, stay away from him and out point him. Sure Fury could catch him, and Haye would be out if so, but you could say that about any big HW and Haye.
I don't think Haye would need to go twelve rounds though.
Chisora.
Cannot surely be a 25/1 on shot? who've they lined up for him some indie bewetter from Cambridge?
Exciting but ultimately poor fight.
More questions than answers so far as Fury goes. Cunningham was a credible opponent, but Fury had a relatively simple task; just keep him at distance, use the jab, grind him down, pick your shots. He couldn't do it, because he's a pudding. Wlad or Vitali would school him.
he's just a gyppo brawler, basically.
Anyone with even a modicum of skill and understanding (Haye for example) would have him on his arse within two rounds.
love Fury's banter
top lad.
banter??? that's fucking crooning
cauterwauling*
fucking hell
two trifles dancing this chisora fight
Chisora 100 to 1 on.
and the crowd go wild
absolute shite
Khan's on tonight.
Should win. Diaz is very experienced, and can bang, but has lost whenever he's come up against world-class opponents before. Khan mid-rounds KO, probably.
Fraudley's in with the biggest banger in world boxing, should get stopped within a round, but y'never know. He says he's back to his best and will still win a world title. Hmmm. Antony Ogogo's pro debut, too.
Later on, Martin Murray v Sergio Martinez. Very tough fight. He's good, but Martinez, on his own patch, could be brutal. Like Macklin and Barker he might take a bit of a beating. Gary Buckland's on the undercard against some wily South American whose record looks quite padded, but i've never seen him.
Some other big fights later - Garcia v Judah's been tasty in the pressers. Garcia should have too much for him. Peter Quillan should see off Fernando Guerrero. Arreola v Stiverne could be good, too - would fancy Big Chris by KO.
WiZiWig, innit.
I'm gonna say Khan KO 3rd or 4th round
27 fights
47 rounds boxed. :o
imagine if Audrey just landed one lucky punch and flattened this guy.
it'd be amongst the greatest things ever. the US promoters would be blubbering.
not gonna happen.
HAHAHA.
please don't let that absolute scrotum go on stealing a living.
incredible scenes
looked like he was cacking himself before the bell even rang
couldn't have happened to a nicer guy really
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihe19YlhuQ8
as big, solid and mean as Wilder is...
he's got proper chicken legs.
wouldn't mind seeing him in with a tough, proven American - Banks, Thompson, even Cunningham. would be interesting to see how those legs support him if someone connects.
imagine the pre-fight banter if they got Fury v Wilder on!
Shot!
not really a fan of ogogo
wow. that guy's face
I GO BY OGOGO
anywhere i can watch any of this?
Check your PM's
nice to see richard keys back on tv
he's such a prick
Opera singer was taking the piss right?
P.s. Audrey LOL
no obvious improvement from Khan defensively.
on top, but getting tagged quite regularly.
something not right with the Khan/Hunter relationship there.
a trainer should be in the ring. Khan's body language looked very off.
some really lovely shots from Khan in the last two rounds.
Diaz still looks like he's got another level to step up to, though. and the more dominant Khan is, the more you think he could get a bit complacent and walk onto something. gave him every round bar the 8-10 so far, mind.
Tonight again seems to beg the ongoing question
why does Khan keep getting pulled into tear ups by scrappers?
The ref
appears to be holding Khan up here.
Diaz has been great here.
Khan has no defence and even less heart.
Harsh on the heart comment
he's take some big shots in the lost couple of rounds and is still, stupidly, trying to go toe to toe.
The fact that the ref is letting him cling on like a limpet isn't his fault.
that's just stupidity, though, isn't it?
maybe i'm wrong and he has too much heart, idk, not really how i see it.
Stupidity is the word i'd use
serious questions have to be asked about why he doesn't just rely on the skill and hand speed he has in abundance.
actually, yeah...
it's pretty harsh (and incorrect) to say he showed no heart there.
it's just frustrating that he harnesses it in the wrong way.
Diaz showed a lot of heart
bullshit ref.
he had more consistency tbf
glad khan won though
Gave Khan 7 rounds, Diaz 4, 1 split.
but with a 10-8 in there for Diaz.
honestly think retirement's the best idea for Khan.
guess you'd have to say he did well to recover, but there was absolutely no defence, right from the first round, and that's with the best defensive coach in the world. obvious punches as well, like the left through the middle.
Rios, Alvarado, Matthysse, Garcia, even Broner when he steps up, would all mercilessly flatten him.
still, very good fight to watch.
hope we get Khan/Brook before that, like.
think Brook would knock him out.
title fight in december
good luck with that amir
his defence should have been pulled up by the ref
absolute bullshit
wisnae tripped and hit either in that knockdown
Floyd Mayweather's purse for his fight tonight...
$32m.
Blimey!
depressing how shit Klitschko undercards always are.
this pudding did more in that second round than David Haye did in twelve.
still, he's a punchbag and won't be lasting long.
ref's got a mean pimp walk
Ricky Burns getting schooled here.
WTF?!
Did not see that coming!
wat
Fix
Round 7 was a cracker though, eh?
Few fights tonight...
Quite a decent-looking Cruiserweights Prizefighter, with Wadi Camacho, Neil Dawson and Danny McIntosh, who are all decent enough British level fighters, plus a couple of unbeaten lumps. Getting a bit tired of the format, tbh, but a few of these guys chew canvas a bit so hopefully they'll be a couple of knockouts.
Then later in the States, Lamont Peterson v Lucas Matthysse could be a guddun. Devon Alexander should school Lee Purdy on the undercard, not sure that's a well-matched fight at all, and Purdy's not made the weight. Anthony Ogogo and Haroon Khan both get their US debuts, as well.
This interview's pretty funny - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNqjocmmYFw
Matthysse looks very impressive indeed. Should be a good fight.
