Is that always a maggot's doing or do they sometimes occur naturally?
if the hole is a little larger
thats why the holes are usually on windfall apples
I had no idea that's how farms conducted their affairs.
I'd prefer it if the apple trees were fenced off to be honest.
and I found a maggot in the salad. Took it up to the counter and told them. They said at least it proves it's fresh, I replied that it proves they don't wash their salad leaves. They gave me a refund.
Supermarkets have brainwashed us into thinking that all fruit must be PERFECTLY FULLY FORMED AND SHINY. Most holes are fine in apples.
It's one of the reasons why millions of tons of fruit and vegetables a year are destroyed for no good reason... (sigh).
rather than destroy it
Make it into juices etc. But it's an inevitable consequence of today's selling and producing of fresh fruit and veg that loads of it goes to waste... sad.
