New Season starts tonight :D
Anyone got any league predictions?
it's great to see bradford still in there. that wiggins advert on sky is stupidly good too, do you think he follows warriors just because of his name? gonna get to a couple more games this year. proper day out.
goes to games, wheres shirts etc, think he lives not too far from there.
As a Cas fan im not right happy with Bradford. they fucked up big time and getting fans and players to bail them out is an all time low. with the slary cap etc in place what they did is pretty much cheating in my eyes but they are a big team with a good history so it is kind of good they are still there. kind of makes a mockery of the super league application thing though
my grandad has met him there a few times, says he's a bit of a moody sort. my grandad can be pretty annoying though so i'll let him off.
agreed to an extent with bradford but as i understand it they would have had no chance of survival whatsoever if they went into the championship. they were run poorly but it's fucking hard times all over at the moment, everyones in debt no? the amount over the salary cap would have been relative peanuts really.
i'd bend every rule in the book to stop any more sides going belly up tbh.
report was saying the other day only 5 or so teams making any real money (can guess which they are)
just hope that any other side in such a state gets the same help from the RFL
wigans performances in their warm up games they wont be near good enough to pull off any kind of success this season, saints and wolves look to be the ones to watch out for
lost a few v good players and from what ive seen not brought in too much quality. good youth set up though so may be a few surprises.. and as leeds have shown a long as you're there or there abouts.. if you hit good form at the right time you can surprise a few people
i havent ruled them out yet, perhaps with a bit more experience the young players will get better and might pull a few out of the bag, but your not wrong in saying they have lost a few big/good players to go back down under and also a couple on loan
Haven't watched for years. I take it Salford are set to maintain their almost-bottom status this year? Great.
by some rich racing horse owner or something.
they'll finish above cas this year i reckon.. so yeah.. almost bottom :)
Says he's going to be involved with team talks if they lose, throwing a fair bit of money around and claiming they'll have glory soon.
Not sure whether to adopt a team or just to stay neutral. Edging towards the latter. I've always kinda liked Wigan in a glory hunter way, then St Helens, could never like Leeds. Should probably support Salford seeing as they play about four miles away, but i can't really get over the 'Reds' thing, and i was reading before that they've got a bit vulgarball now, that's the last thing i need. Might just support Eorl Crabtree.
I feel like I shouldn't, but... but they're, like, big brothers
but the northwest has some good teams with warrington & saints too.
bst bet is staying neutral imo.. then you can appreciate the talents of tomkins or briers etc without thinking they absolute twats
Always thought Manchester's missing a trick by not having a Super League team. There are quite a few teams in the area, like Swinton, Leigh, and some very good amateur teams like Mancunians, but a Super League team would be great. Most Mancs probably wouldn't go and watch Salford. I suppose people must have thought about it, maybe because the city's so football mad it wouldn't work, idk, but it seems to in Leeds.
last year it was quicker for me to get to a warrington game than to a salford one (i live in whalley range).
that and salford arnt very good.. its a shame but people like watching teams win.. or failing that at least play well. for example huddersfield didnt have that big of a following until they turned good.
and there's a real rivalry between the football fans and the rugby fans. Some of them actively hate eachother. I find that all pretty weird, to be honest. I don't know if there are any real politics behind it.
gareth ellis injured! :/
Sounds like it might be a lot more family friendly and much less of a spectacle than the grand final, but might pop along as it seems decent value for money.
There have been whispers about for a while that City wanted to take the Grand Final from Old Trafford. Don't really see that happening, and it would be a shame if it did, it's quickly become quite an iconic League venue, hasn't it. Would be a bit like moving the snooker from the Crucible, or the tennis from Wimbledon, i guess.
got to really like your rugby to go for the full weekend. good value.. as you get 3 or 4 well contested games usually derby matches. theyve played with the location and timing of it and stuff since its inception.. I enjoyed it last year, red hot, quick action packed rugby, and I like the etihad as a ground.
one downside about the weekend is how unfair it is for the clubs.. as you effectively play 1 team 3 times a season.
rugby as a whole is family friendly, the real difference with the magic weekend is that you get a real mix of all the teams fans there.. you do get the neutrals at the GF and challenge cup but not on the same scale naturally.
cant see the GF going to the etihad.. if its 60K capacity as is, plus they put the big screen in a corner I just dont think its big enough. that said I dont think people have that much love for old trafford.. just a biig ground up north makes it easier to get to and makes the challenge cup final at wembley special
y'don't see that in the Premier League.
didnt see much of saints but.. wow..
should be a good game.
also see ties from
hull v bradford
catalan v salford
wakefield v hull kr
Huddersfield Giants v London Broncos
Widnes Vikings v St Helens
Castleford Tigers v Leeds Rhinos
lots of injuries pre season and in the first round of games make it tough to predict.
Id go for
in Super League since we'll most probably never get there despite bossing the Championship for the last couple of seasons.
Hear lots of positivity from the club regarding the next opportunity to apply, but can't see it myself. Just seems fucked up there's no promotion/relegation and a club like Bradford can run themselves in to the ground through bad management and stay in SL whilst we (and others) run a responsible business, consistently compete at the top of the tier below SL, yet aren't allowed to join the party.
Yes, I am bitter.
but better than a merger between cas/wakey/fev no?
its a shame though. especially when as soon as a team fom the desired area gets to be good in the championship and fit their criteria they'll change the goalposts again.
I think SL management know who they want in and who they want out, and we're not in the former category. They wanted Widnes and now they've got them. Same with Hull KR years ago. With Cas and Wakefield around Fev won't get a look in. Shame as the Fev/Cas derby is always great.
when the teams put half a side out at xmas/new year
meatheads charging into each other and looking for contact.
Teams all places like Widnes and Warrington and Hull. Interesting in a way, do all the young men in the area not watch football, hence their football teams are shit, and watch RL instead?
Remember seeing a long list of their outs, and few of the pundits seem to be tipping them.
5-6 first team players, theyve replaced 2-3 and brought a few youngsters in from what ive seen.
its the NRL allstars game. wont be state of origin quality but the teams look great
stinks of ad revenue
what a tackle.
also, know this is a League thread, but might watch the Union final. Just reading that Leicester have made NINE successive finals?! Crazy.
mainly for the cas v wakey game.
theyve got some sort of ref cam thing going on.. not sure it works but good to see them tryingg something new.
might get a ticket for tomorrow if the weather holds up
didn't see that coming. Thought he would have switched codes.
