Weekend pstp Football pstp Thread pstp
Lots of games off today. Wigan vs Sunderland is definitely on, the world groans.
Cup Of Nations opening day today. By the sounds of it, Saffers vs Cape Verde could be the dullest game of the tournament. South Africa are clueless in attack, Cape Verde will only defend. Angola vs Morocco later on though, should be better.
Big bottom of the table clash at Fortress St James'.
Swansea to break the possession percentage records at home to Stoke.
City can PILE the pressure on United by closing the gap to JUST FOUR POINTS by beating Fulham at home.
Over in the Eredivisie, Erik Pieters marked his first game back from injury for PSV for 9ish months by lunging in and getting sent off. He punched a window on the way to the dressing room and cut his forearm and could now be out for even longer. Seems like a fella of sound mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Jy9gkhGBtzw
It's De Klassieker tomorrow. Both teams on fine form and desperately needing to catch PSV up after they lost last night.
Real Madrid will be grateful to have Adán back as they travel to Valencia.
Nigel Adkins leaves an incredibly positive for the Southampton players. I wonder if he left one for the management. https://twitter.com/SimonPeach/status/292381833591664640/photo/1
owt else?
Oh shit also
Mame Diouf scored this overhead kick last night as Johan Djourou conceded five on his debut.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Gxf7seCAc
that has to be the least enthusiastic response to a outrageous goal I've seen
always good when an outrageous piece of skill fails to even earn a point.
outrageous
<3 Adkins
you will be missed, sir.
not for long, hopefully
be fun if he replaced pardew again
won't happen quite yet, sadly.
Ashley has said that Pardew's 'entitled to one bad season'.
that message he pinned to the dressing room almost had me in tears
I swear that man will be welcome in anybody's home in Southampton for as long as he lives./
Derby - Forest
Gonna whack my rams t-shirt on and be a complete wierdo on my own
SHIRT
Not t-shirt
Is that not on TV?
sadly not
always high entertainment when those two face off
Not that I'm aware of?
Hate to be gathering indie points in a football thread, but I dont have a tv!
Arsenal will have the game of their season tomorrow.
Torres won't score.
Do bookies give odds on individual players getting sent off?
Wilshire is getting sent off.
6/4 to get booked
W-s-M v Dorchester OFF
Going to be playing five games a week soon at this rate.
Weather's playing absolute havoc with my non-league plans for today.
Only 'Moneybags' Stockport Sports v AFC Liverpool, Stockport County v Forest Green & Macc Town v Kidderminster left on. Hoping the former will survive as the other two would be in the region of £15 each, which is obscene quite frankly.
Looking forward to Juve v Udinese, Fiorentina v Napoli, Roma v Inter, Ajax v Feyenoord & Valencia v Madrid.
Vulgar, tedious moneyball-wise, actually think there might be a few away wins this weekend - United, Everton, maybe Arsenal, even got slight leanings for Villa, Sunderland, QPR, Stoke & Reading. Can't possibly happen.
Forza's Weekend Banker - United to beat Spurs + Fulham draw or better - £25 @ 9/1 (£250).
You'd like Macc.
There are three great pubs on the walk from the station to the ground.
And loads of kebab shops
Was going to post a funny Macc Lads link but..
1) I don't really want to celebrate a band who seem like the BNP with guitars, ironic or not
2) It would be unfair on the good people of Macclesfield to consistently associate them with those guys. Hell, I'm from Accrington and it annoys me beyond comprehension that people know nothing about our industrial heritage (hell, even asking about Mystic Meg or Hayley from Corrie would suffice) but instead just go "Accrington Stanley? Who are they?" in the accent of people 50 miles away from the actual town.
have you seen hyde play this season?
another successful weekend BANKER!
What are AFC Liverpool fans like?
Are they like PROPER MILITANT Scousers?
have
we talked about Tony Pullis being a massive hypocrite?
many, many times
Did you hear him after the chelsea game?
He was rally cool! Just was like WHATEVS NEVER MIND, SHIT HAPPENS. I thought he came across really well!
I'm pretty dead to manager sackings these days
but that Adkins photo is pulling my tiny heart strings.
If the weather in west London is as forecast, the H&S Nazis will see off the Chelsea-Arsenal game tomorrow. Absolutely no-one I know, of either blue or red persuasion, is looking forward to it.
Also, is ACON on the BBC again this year?
Really, really want Didi to win it.
Thankfully, no.
As with most comedy football they've shunted it onto ITV4.
http://www.live-footballontv.com/african-cup-of-nations-on-tv.html
Ah, cheers.
Not a single Ivory Coast group game on ITV4. Looks like I'll wait a little while to get involved.
Every game is on Eurosport as well.
Oh and ITV4 haven't confirmed yet which final group game they'll be showing,
so they might well have Ivory Coast-Algeria then.
ffs forza
yeah you got me, whatever, why even say that
REALLY excited about today.
I'm all optimistic.
(Which means I should stick a few quid on 0-0)
hammer head dancing in the background
releasing bubbles. This is a kids theme park not a FOOKIN FOOTY CLUB
Di Canio stays up late to clear swindon pitch
then buys everyone pizza. getting emotional with that and the adkins note
https://twitter.com/Kevinhorlock6/status/292425308257275905
How dare you think any AFCON game will be dull
It's a carnival from start to finish. Great pitches, great goalkeepers, great refs.
For the most part, yeah.
Not this game though. South Africa just cracking under the pressure against a team that don't offer much in attack.
And a South African sporting tournament in good weather for once!
Unsurprisingly, Derby's kit is fucking horrific

Does Forza still do the threads? :(
Man City, Wigan, West Brom, Chelsea, Man Utd and READING to win.
Blackpool approach Adkins
https://twitter.com/The_Gazette/status/292628762640674816
doesn't look like a very desirable job
http://www.football365.com/faves/8398658/When-Frugality-Becomes-A-Lack-Of-Ambition
Ah, that's a really sad read
the world groans
how very dare you!!!!!1
mudsliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide
best conditions to play in imho
slide tacklin' for metres at a time
wait are you a wigan fan did I remember that right
if so prepare to be taken to school by 'the entertainaz' today
yeah, i'm a wigan fan (:
at least the pitch isn't frozen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3SSuBCAMxI
I'll retract my groan if there are more than two goals.
nick summerbee's dad in the house
that's pretty much like saying 'I won't retract my groan'
idk, is Carlos Cuellar back from injury yet?
nope!
I think it's Bramble & O'Shea today. The Dependables.
GROAN
city are winning though!
2 goals already!
bloody hell
AND ANOTHER
Groans retracted.
Game of the day!
careful now
Remy just scored for QPR too!
5 goal thrilla!
Very scared for the last 15 minutes there but we just about held on
good game good game
yeah, what a cracker!
think we've slipped back into the bottom 3. bit concerned about our paper thin squad -.-
is anything going to happen in the transfer window?
Newcastle's squad is pretty weak at present if that helps
Maybe Becchio
Hopefully the young RB from Barnsley. We've got a GK on loan too. Two best players today were the two that came on - Espinoza (just signed from a MLS side) and a forward on load from Man U. They have to start, hopefully we can dig ourselves out the hole.
yeah
we're supposed to be in for that RB too :S
Man U loans always help eh, Cleverley did pretty well! Wish we still had Wellbeck
Hope you stay up anyway!
Cleverly was great!
Thanks fella (:
Henriquez was pretty lethal last year.
Quite a handy player to have if you can create the chances.
forest are pretty terrible
derby are pretty lightweight but are being made to look very threatening indeed
Liverpool tearing us a new one here :(
OH FUCK OFF
Beautiful Cabaye free kick
fucking hell -.-
Le Fondre for England :D
That equaliser was a thing of beauty.
http://i.minus.com/im4Ya1Kpw52MB.gif
Bring back King Kev
someone was talking to me about getting Kev back seriously this week
living in the past!
Bloody hell.
He's long overdue a return to management though, I think he might make a comeback this month. Same with Souness.
Wolves were pretty shit again by the sounds of things
PLAYERS OUT!
by the sounds of it so was wednesday's finishing
if jones bothered to put an actual striker up front we might have all three points
actually really looking forward to west brom vs wagons
Lambert will go if they lose this..
.. not gonna happen now though
whats Norwich's problem vs liverpool?
we drew with them at anfield last year!
but I dunno we've always struggled against them for some reason
three goals conceded in the last seven games
boring our way to survival
*chicken dance*
i bet ywang is getting on the first plane out of newcastle
predictable dull 1-0 win for leeds
6 on the bounce and another clean sheet. sounded like byram was immense at both ends, and mccormack is starting to find form again - just in time if becchio's off. would've been nice to move closer to 6th or a place in the table, but ah well.
cardiff should be interesting in two weeks, given our home form. still expect us to give us their customary 3 points though
perhaps even spurs - didnt realise there's no midweek games either side of the FA cup match so quite happy to really go for it. will be fine providing we dont pick up any knocks
michael owen scored a goal
:D
messi scores in the 4th minute
his 10th consecutive la liga goal
Something about Messi not scoring consecutive goals.
boothy, during the week:
"vydra will tear us a new one"
not the hardest prediction to make but kudos nonetheless, your boys have got problems, gotta wonder whether peterborough are badass enough to take advantage
Wish we could play Norwich every week.
shut up :(
Sounds like an entertaining afternoon.
Whisper it, but Gerrard's been great recently. Wasn't sure about whether he'd really fit in to Brentdan's new team, but he's been superb whenever i've seen him since about November.
Dave Silver's second goal for Man City's fucking sexy.
Very nearly got lucky with a nice little 65/1 away treble - Reading, Sunderland, QPR. Would've gotten away with it hadn't it been for that pesky Joe Cole.
That Championship table looks beautiful.. just beautiful.. this evening.
Appleton out!
Agreed
Sitting in second with a stonking goal difference after Hull could only draw...enjoying current Leicester fortunes
That was a nice win for you last night!
I was a bit shocked by how low the attendance was but I'll give your lot the benefit of the doubt because of the weather. Rovers would struggle to muster that crowd in 25C sunshine.
west brom look drunk
Steve Clarke always looks like he's channelling the spirit of Bryan Robson and George Burley,
when it comes to post-match interviews.
couldn't villa leave it 1 more week before getting good again
ffs
anyone think newcastle will go down?
I said I'd only start thinking it's a possibility if they lost to reading, but I still don't see it if I'm honest
I just think despite how they've been playing they've got far more balance than any of the teams around them, and depth. Plus more capacity to improve in terms of the transfer window, injuries returning, and their general play on the field
although with villa going 2 up it makes it more interesting
yep, have money on it
Nah
Few teams were than them so they'll be alright. I still think Villa will go down, regardless of what's happening at the Hawthorns right now.
No.
I'd never say a team was too good to go down, but they've got a very good squad. They've been extremely unlucky with injuries - Krul, Taylor, Coloccini, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, etc. If they can add a couple of players this month, and get people back fit, i think they'll be okay.
Reports suggest Blackburn Rovers fans pelted owners Venky's with snowballs as they made their way to the ground.
The gift that keeps on giving
hope venky's liked what they saw
actually hope to christ they didn't, they might relocate to se7
lovely goal
bf
City weren't great but Fulham are fucking dire. Played 4-6-0 for the entire game. Felt sorry for Berbatov, he was their only player to even be finding passes and spent most of the game looking absolutely baffled as to how his career had come to this.
Dzeko is a donkey. Dzonkey. Really hope Zabaleta's alright, got visions of us playing Milner at right back for the next month
Cracking strike from Smith in the Blackpool/Cardiff game.
bloody hell
barca about to lose their first game of the season with an injury time winner, from 2-0 up to 3-2 down
absolutely brilliant match
Quite glad they've lost one.
Results have flattered them at times this season. Hearing lots of "This team's better than Pep's" stuff, which is nonsense, to be frank.
ashley cole's re-signed for chelsea
Cole has agreed a new deal at Chelsea
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21105158
Good business for them.
Robbie Savage is painfully stupid
I thought he was just being a windup merchant on 606 but he's a genuine, true blue moron.
Pogba's a really good player, eh?
Another great goal, and yet further proof that players only go one way after leaving ManYoo.
woof

TWAT! LIQUID FOOTBALL!
WOW!
This kid's a superstar.
BLOOTER!
That is an absolute blooter.
Dear oh dear
Steven Fletcher's hair transplant...
SH-MACK
SH-MACK!!!!!!!
SH-MAAACK
Motson sounded like somebody had a grip of oscillating firmness upon his testicles
he's gonna be just vowel sounds soon
He needs putting down.
Routine things happening in games lead to him actually climaxing.
Yohan Cabaye's a truly sexy footballer.
This is Watford FC.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvZAobJ1lxg
If I was a more emotional man I'd be welling up right now.
that's brilliant
yeah we're never gonna catch them.
: (
*Udinese
just bitter cos I thought Dale Stephens had Goal Of The Day sewn up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XkoUhy077I
best team i've seen in the championship this season by far
bentikay
:D
That second Silva goal was fucking class.
When City knock it about they're much better to watch than virtually anyone else.
what is wrong with us :'(
today I discovered two surprising football facts
dennis bergkamp is 6ft 2. I've always though of him as a short player for some reason.
joaquin (of valencia fame) was breastfed until the age of 7.
love these facts
bring more facts
the second one is great
sauce?
wikipedia
:((((
Despite winning at Old Trafford earlier this season
I have zero confidence for today, been a few years since Spurs have even scored at home to United, and with no Sandro to hold the fort, we're gonna get a pasting from RvP
That's bad luck that...
your by far standout player of the season getting injured just before you play Manchester United.
I think the best you can hope for is a fair ref. Judging by the reports in the paper i read of United's trips to Anfield, Stamford Bridge & even Eastlands, the refs really stepped up to the plate to ensure they got three points.
1-3.
Very bad luck indeed
And Parker naturally looked a bit rusty when he came on in his place against QPR.
I also worry that if we win today, I'll convince myself we can finish above Arsenal in the top 4 (which we won't)
Arsenal will almost certainly beat us today
No result would surprise me.
Don't particularly fear Arsenal, but we've been so spineless at home under Benitez that it doesn't take much to imagine anyone winning there.
11-6 to chelsea would surprise me.
Gerrard and McAllister on Goals on Sunday shortly :)
Played my fantasy league wildcard
After forgetting about it. Christ. Did I really have Kone and Torres up front in my squad? Tim Krul in goal? What a chump.
Maybe been posted before, but Arsenal players have to pay any disciplinary fines to Big Mert :)
http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/picture-arsenal-player-fines-20122013/
Apparently, it's the captain at Arsenal who decides whether the team all wear short or long sleeves too.
Bit odd that, I thought.
Cisse's gone to Qatar
Arshavin is the only attacking player on our bench
Could be seeing the little master today! Would love him to bag the winning goal and do the finger to the lips celebration.
Wouldn't risk it
He might try and eat it.
odd game yesterday
wouldv taken a draw at the start but it was such a shame to throw a 2 goal lead away. west brom in the second half came out blazing. plenty of positives though. in the first half we actually looked top. nzogbia had his best game ive seen, bentekes first goal was a masterclass and when gabby is on form, he can genuinely be unplayable.
lambert needs to realise 3 at the back isnt the way, especially not with joe bennett. give warnock another run out
This isn't looking good
Haha
<3 arsenal
Wenger's got to go now.
It's actually a bit embarrassing seeing a once great manager so out of his depth. Their players just aren't playing for him.
looked like ramires dived a bit then
saw the leg pop out in front of him and decided to take a tumble.
I'll give it to DK
Torres' miss there was the miss of a man who has lost it so completely it's hard to imagine how he ever had it
I just want him to be happy
:(
oh chelsea <3
how did i ever doubt thee
This is depressing
Cazorla looks like he's sulking because all the good players got picked for the other team in the playground.
Nobody is playing properly. It's like we've got 11 Fernandos out there. Chelsea, unfortunately, only have one.
Really wish Mata didn't play for Chelsea
class act through and through
hve spurs got a lot of players out?
Seems theyre doing a chelsea and leaving the pitch to ice/snow over
naughty Ramires.
Look forward to the media making a huge deal about it now that it's not a British player involved.
he's always been a little bellend
Just easier not to care when his diving and niggles lead to little result in terms of domestic success.
Must admit if he played for man utd he'd get a lot more hate
Not sure what you're on about here.
Ramires seems an odd target for hate. Never really does much wrong. I'll take your word for it though, I guess you know better than anyone what a dickhead footballer looks like.
arsenal are so poor at this point in time
that i'm not sure what the nestors of this world get out of mocking them.
Watching them last week I suddenly thought
"You know...this is a lot like watching Liverpool."
Harrowing epiphany.
100k!!11!
GIVE THAT BOY A PAYRISE!!
Theo!
too many games on.
Ajax-Feyenoord might not be dead yet at 3-0 as Ajax are now down to ten. Ghana-DR Congo will hopefully be exciting, especially if Zakuani comes on https://twitter.com/Gabs50Zakuani/status/292896781157666816
And it wouldn't be surprising if there were more goals in Chelsea-Arsenal.
Good game, that.
Not going to watch Spurs v Man United.
As sure as night follows day, you know Spurs will drop their trousers for United at t'Lane.
Why the hell can't we play all 90 minutes of games like the second half there
The amount of times we have just gone out completely half hearted in the first half then picked it up after the break ... I can't recount. Just so frustrating.
Just looking at the teams...
Anyone know why Spurs have rested their best defender for one of their most important games of the season?
because the internal rhyme in Walker-Dawson-Caulker-Naughton
is just too good
Turns out he were ill:
https://twitter.com/Jan_Vertonghen/status/293085315013410816
De Gea really needs to have a word with Hart on how to eradicate parrying the ball to an oncoming striker out of his game.
remember when everyone was like
no point in man united signing van persie
Nope.
I remember when he was the best striker in the country last season.
yeah i remember that too
pretty sure there was a mixed reaction on here when he signed though
actually i'm not that sure anymore
don't go dredging up old threads or anything
I think that was only from bitter Arsenal fans
brilliant fightback and goal celebrations from DR Congo.
Battered them in the first half,
got battered by them in the second. Apparently both Chelsea goals are controversial somehow. Haven't seen replays.
Wilshere is great but so obviously a dick.
So cold. So very cold.
We just about coped for about 20 minutes of the 2nd half.
So lucky not to concede. Then again, could've had at least one more in the first half.
second half was nailbitingly bad
Spurs whingers
Stop complaining yourself, we gift you 3 points and a clean sheet at WHL every season
Pipe down and enjoy it
far too casual from defoe, really shouldve scored
Sounds like real spineless stuff from Spurs.
I know it's just a saying, but our spine hasn't been the problem
Dembele has been excellent in the middle, channeling Sandro, as well as his usual attributes. We just haven't had anything in the final third and have been reduced to shots wildly off target from distance.
United look very well organised.
Dempsey was a waste of a shirt for Spurs today
Unless he sticks one in within the next few minutes of course
lol.
:D
WAHEY
GO CLINT
: DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
DEMPSEY
haha
After the countless goals we've conceded in the last 10 minutes this season
THAT feels fucking good
a save with the legs...
can never be a GREAT save, imho.
i love him usually but i think BAE fucked up every time he touched the ball.
Didn't expect anything today so very pleased with a good performance and result.
I was there, he didn't
i wasn't there, he pretty much did
If that Rooney thing's a pen then football reallly has gone.
Clearly kicked Caulker's foot and took a tumble.
think a draw was a fair (and expected) result there
some great defensive work from both teams, good game all round after a slow start. ddg, rafael and rio were all great bar the last two minutes, and carrick and jones both did their jobs well.
also, cheering when you get a foul
doesn't really work when the referee is giving fouls every minute, Spurs fans.
Ferguson mentioning that Drogba goal from about 30 years ago
Jfc :')
Imagine the kind of person you'd have to be
to remember the linesman who made that hairline call, so that years later you could name and shame him over another hairline call.
1 goal in 25 for welbeck this season
... Wow.
Man Utd are mugs for sitting back in the second half like that
Should have come at us and taken a 2nd and we'd have been fucked
I think I have frostbite on my nose
for some reason i though footy tickets in spain would be cheaper than in england
they aren't.
they are.
at all clubs bar Barcelona, for most games.
Ignore that.
They must've really hiked them up in the last two years.
Cheeky tenner on Dempsey to score next
Paid for dinner (:
It was pretty obvious early on that United was going to sit back and
counter and for the most part it worked bar the final ball. Even in the 2nd half United broke dangerously on more then a handful of occasions but just couldn't find that final ball. Spurs looked a real threat attacking down the right. Lennon had a superb game and Spurs deserved the point if not more.
Atletico's 19th consecutive home win...
And their 10th consecutive home win without conceding. Woah.
avb's face :D
http://i49.tinypic.com/1zqsokn.jpg
maybe not even as good as neville's face
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BBE20SsCUAAWhP3.jpg
real madrid are back
:(
the fourth best player in the world's destroying Valencia.
in keeping with my mid-range bets this season
i'm kinda tempted to lay a bit of money on liverpool finishing fourth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=r2y8duQxbOg#!
