apparently it's becoming a really horrible job
If so, it costs around £40k I believe - a friend of my missus did it when he was in his mid-30s. He had the slight advantage of having been a pilot with The RAF for 15 years so was grandfathered through most of the training - still cost him £10k. Apparently there is not much work around for newly qualified pilots at the moment however.
One of my ex-colleagues decided to change career in his mid-thirties. He already had a pilot's license and the extra was to do the further training.

As an aside, I did a trial flight in a microlight - piece of piss to fly. Landing a bit hairy though...
