American Horror Story: Asylum
Has anyone been watching this? Only two episodes left and no let up in how great this series has been. I loved last night's episode, especially the excessive use of the wide angle lens. I can't remember when I've purely enjoyed a TV series so much. It's the best kind of shiny, trashy, borderline incoherent, try-hard nonsense. I'm going to buy the DVDs and have annual viewing marathons and dress as Ian McShane Santa for Halloween.

Yeah I have to say that I love this shite
However, I watched the first four or five when they came out and haven't seen any since. They are all racked up ready to go for a catch up.
This series is much better than the first, especially as it doesn't have any of the really annoying central family (or the fact that they could have left whenever they fancied really).
It was magnificently mad for the first 8 episodes
then SPOILER: when the sexy/possessed nun died it became a little rubbish for the next few. Hoping it picks up for the finale
Yep. Been watching it religiously (no pun intended)
absolutely LOVE it. Jessica Lange is phenomenal.
Also, Ryan Murphy apparently gave a hint to Season 3's theme in last week's episode. Dying to know what it is.
I love how Jessica Lange rips in to those big religious sermonizing speeches
with that awesomely ripe accent. I also don't know if TV gets much better than erstwhile sheep-pig farmer James Cromwell ordering a prostitute dressed as a nun to show him her 'mossy bank'. Or the scene where the schoolkids found poor Chloe Sevigny. Proper Tod Browning's Freaks territory.
Her singing the name game song was amazing too.
Also, did you see last week's with the breast feeding fetish escort? Dylan Mcdermott with breast milk running down his chin. :O
It's brilliant how they're willing to just switch to whatever style they feel like
and to go to a candy coloured song and dance was inspired. Ridiculous and brilliant.
Yeah, this week's was great. I loved the framing narrative in the apartment, still properly creepy in spite of any inherent silliness. I love that after just how far they went in earlier episodes there was no hesitation left that yes, one of the main stars is going to breastfeed from a prostitute. And some of the lighting/camera choices were so cool in the Lana/Thredson scene. The police lights flashing red and blue, the solid black shadows, the veriginous angles. It might be total pastiche or whatever but it's so well put together.
Can't wait to see what happens now that Elma and her babe are back too.
The Lana/Thredson scene was brilliantly done - not to mention her in the taxi with the disc. Also loved the camera angles of Lana at her GFs grave.
That scene with Lana at the mausoleum really reminded me of the first Phantasm film
I have to admit I was hoping for flying silver murderballs and killer dwarves made out of squashed corpses because why the hell not. But I settled for that hilariously inept friend of hers saying awful, inappropriate things.
Lana's taxi escape was so well executed. I'm not sure what they'll do with her for the next two episodes, though. I guess there's still the Sister Jude situation to resolve.
It had a very Lynch-esq quality to it
I think there will be tie-up between her and the current bloody-face. Maybe she's still alive?
Yeah, that scene with the song was brilliant
Brilliantly off the wall
it could
be the orphanage that was mentioned? i cant think of anything else mentioned that could be a clue for the setting of season 3? possibly rome/vatican? who knows
also im loving this series much more than the first, hopefully its up and up from here
An orphanage would be excellent.
Someone said it also could relate to the song bit - Hollywood/showbusiness
I think the Vatican is a bit obvious, and he covers religion a lot in this series. But, either way I am excited.
I think an Orphanage would be a little too similar to the setting this season
I agree that religion has been covered. Given that the themes of the show seem to broadly cover American culture and traditions, Hollywood is a good shout
Not sure
The first series started good, went awsome, then lost it's way and went shit. To be honest, when I saw that gimp from Heroes/Star Trek it did kill it for me.
I will probably give this one a watch, though.
He is pretty good in this series truth be told
He wasn't really a major character last time
I thought he was brilliant in both
what other shows would you recommend?
so I can avoid them?
You like true blood, right?
So it has just been confirmed that the third series will be:
American Horror Story: Coven
Set in New Orleans and will be obviously about witchcraft. Cathy Bates has signed up too. Along with the usual cast.

I can confirm I will not waste anymore time on it
Shockingly bad for the cast involved
Thanks for confirming
We were all on tenterhooks waiting to see if you'd sign up for season 3: you seemed to love season 2 so much
I am so in.
I really liked the finale of this season with old age makeup Lana. Can't wait.
I saw a few early ones
It just seemed to me like a horror series written by the people who did Glee. Which is exactly what it is. Loveable disabled kids and dialogue delivered like it's the most important thing anyone ever said and all.
I find the focus placed on the Glee connection kind of interesting
as both of the writers linked to Glee were also involved with Nip/Tuck which was considerably different.
That said the first season definitely has elements of campy horror in it.
Never saw much of Nip/Tuck
But I think it's easy to see AHS and Glee are written by the same people, same with The New Normal which I think might have one of 'em involved. Same sense of humour and dialogue style. Perhaps they've found their (incredibly irritating) niche now.
fair play
although it's also worth noting that only four episodes in the first season of AHS were actually written/directed by Bryan Falchuk or Ryan Murphy and only three in the second season.
