marckee posted ownness instead of onus. Thought you might like to know.
but this bit needs to be kept so maybe a sticky?
I am SO in.
highlights of the social board daily thread.
let me know if you have any problems with getting it double ticked by theo.
i only ever feel the need to call someone ableist after repeated use of slurs or making a joke at someones expense. someone being so petty about me mispelling their username (which is spelled wrong, fyi) just so happened to be the only time i've done it on this particular site
On even more levels now.
especially when irked.
on my way
has marckee made any more mistakes?
I'm not going back in there.
THEO called me a cunt in there. To be fair I did use his name as an interchangeable cipher for the men who groped my friends on public transport. What was actually offensive about it was he did it in the format of that "ITT:" thing internet idiots are using now. Not dignified for a man his age
googled it and it's the Institute of Travel and Tourism
Don't worry pops, I got your back
just when I thought I couldn't hate him anymore than I do
Got your back TD.
never again. i should have realised exactly what it was like.
Now, somebody please tell me- is it even worth looking in the HMV thread or should I just make a wee cup of tea and watch some reality tv instead?
but it's mostly unsubstantiated.
but outside of me failing to say that i do feel sorry for people that are going to lose their jobs (which i do) i don't know what you mean. you're not being very clear. maybe your musical outlook is very different to mine but it's nice to know that you just put it down to me being a tit. care to elaborate at all?
none of that in here
think of this as no mans land on christmas day
Huge posts and people raging about "victim blaming".
So glad I'm not involved in that. I don't think anyone thinks sexual abuse is good or right so why doesn't everyone just agree? Can't we all just get along and fight about petty political issues instead?
COME ON PEOPLE.
cool and calm in here, might stay for a bit
might kick off
take a deep breath and walk it off
that's for sure
I think I'll set aside tomorrow morning for it.
Is groping a good thing or not?
There's a few senior women at work who have become pregnant and I'm getting the impression that they feel they can't be really happy and positive about their pregnancy because their bosses are now having to find cover and are saying things like, 'all my best people are getting preganant and it's sooo annoying' in a jokey way, like but still.
I said, 'oh I heard your news, that's lovely' and she made this said face like, mmm yeah but I'm getting so fat" now I know this woman fairly well and I really don't think she thinks that, I just feel like she has to act like she's down about it.
My boss even said something similar to me, and I'm 32, engaged with no kids yet. If I get pregnant I'm gonn be really scared to tell him, but obviously it's got to happen fairly soon, he shouldn't have said it, should he?!
I kind of think the majority of it is just total oblivious selfishness that their job might suddenly get like 5% more complicated for a short period of time and he probably doesn't realise how unpleasant/awkward it makes his staff feel. Obviously a shit manager if that minor league frustration is actualy voiced out loud. If it persists, there's always the option of explaining to HR that you think your manager may need some educating around the issue of maternity leave. Though I know how massively uncomfortable that would be.
Tangent: my brother often gets frustrated as he's a department head and his co-manager (who is on a slightly higher salary than him as she's been there longer) literally never takes the on-call phone, thus leaving him with a really, really heavy workload that, if she didn't have a child, he wouldn't have. Not her fault, of course, and he wouldn't take it out on her, but that is an example of a management structure that is failing to deal with a very common problem, and allows for people to see a woman having a child as some sort of disruption, instead of somebody just trying to get on with their job and be a parent. It's an area that needs work, for sure.
There are a few blokes who are making little remarks at each other and getting all sarky and ones like THE WOMEN DONT NEED YOU TO FIGHT THEIR BATTLES and the other is like WELL HOW ABOUT YOU JUST TAKE IN WHAT THE WOMEN ARE SAYING AS THATS AN OPTION TO YOU YOU KNOW then someone else came in and was like NO NEED FOR POINT SCORING and stuff.
Its basically just gone completely off topic and turned into a few blokes having a bitch and a moan about each other.
There needs to be a klaxon for that.
Whatever, it's some fucking stupid word that's a combination of man and explaining that's used by sexists to tell people they're sexist.
Apparently it means I'm a sexist bastard
You make me wanna puke you BASTARD.
If not, that's a bit sexist isn't it?
Anyone see the game last night? CRICKET.
you're welcome x
it was used on me by a fella (I think). Somehow that hurt more
it's really not very pretty in there
Cheer it up a bit.
it wasn't a typo though
I've been in there since first thing and I feel like I've done 12 rounds with Vladimir Klitchko. Think it's cos I've been banging my head against a brick wall
thewarn levels of ridiculous reply counts. Ownness?
this was it
"having their opinions swayed by a self-styled authority"
I think we can all agree we should print out that thread and then burn it.
Of course it was mine <3
love how the groping thread is referred to like the stinking 'present' left in Michaels office.
all I'll say is that if anything they need even more righteous anger, not a load of 'even-handed' ninnying
