Just being lazy, but I wanted to brush up on my general overview.
it was written by Elton John
I mostly only used it to memorise key signatures tbh.
In music theory, the circle of fifths (or circle of fourths) is a visual representation of the relationships among the 12 tones of the chromatic scale, their corresponding key signatures, and the associated major and minor keys. More specifically, it is a geometrical representation of relationships among the 12 pitch classes of the chromatic scale in pitch class space.
That's pretty much all I've got
i don't know what a circle of fifths is
i need to learn. so do you. and you.
I think I know what I'm talking about.
I think I was smarter at 14 :(
Circle of Fifths
Circle of Fourths
Your scales and modes
I'm still doing it. I still don't understand some of it.
Also, basic chord construction. So triads of 1st 3rd and 5rd. Then understand that 7th chords are just the triads with 7th chucked in. Same with 9th chords etc.
Also, chords that are minor just have a flattered 3rd. So down one half step.
This is all my musical knowledge in one post. 15 years of playing and this is what I know.
over on justinguitar.com and worked through them last year. It's a whole other side to actually playing and i found it interesting but if you dont keep it up a fair bit of the knowledge seeps out.
Did help with my playing though
Talking to some jazz cats about it is pretty eye opening too (and terrifying)
basically a bunch of heathens struggling for air in a swampy river, it's miserable, would not recommend
