March 20th at o2 Arena apparently.
Bloody Millennium Dome though.
would have preferred the a
if it was ANYWHERE other than the o2
but the o2 is such a fucking hassle to get to and from when you're traveling from Reading I think I'll have to give it a miss
we had to leave early, then got on a boat, then the DLR to Tower Hill, then it was PAST MIDNIGHT and yes, getting to Padders with limited knowledge of London buses on a Sunday night / Monday morning was really interesting. Think I got home at 4am. But Public Enemy you were worth it.
both times I've just got a hotel for the night to save myself the headache of getting home which actually wouldn't be possible at 4am on a Sunday. The holiday inn down the street from the o2 is actually really nice. Might be doing it again this year too.
No idea if he's got enough of a fanbase here for the o2 though? Wish it was elsewhere.
cant go to that then :/
hope for a manchester date (probably arena..?)
I have seen emails from his agent over UK shows, and yep, extremely unlikely he'll come to manchester for quite some time :(
The lack of information since it was announced is infuriating
yeah okay maybe I'll try and get a ticket for this.
just got 2 tickets. In Row X mind, but oh well.
The ticketing service on his site is stuck loading for me, but i might try and get better seats. Anyone having any joy on there?
Whenever I hear the name Louis CK I think of him.
I'm just going to spend all of today watching Louie clips now.
Seems quite centred to stage
And then I realised it wasn't. Sadface.
They're all on YouTube, the hosts are bellends but he kills it. They've been soundtracking my working days for a while now.
Although not sure I should be doing this at work. I giggle just *thinking* about Louis CK.
Number 39 is the best so far. Incredible stuff about big business in America followed by asking Donald Rumsfeld if he's a lizard.
have the download show, seen all of Louie...that'll have to do me
Wasnt his online stand-up free or a couple of quid or something?
I'd be more than happy to pay £40 if I was in a position to see him
Been waiting to see him and can't really go to this.
SO PUMPED I thought I would miss him as I don;t get back from holiday until that day.
How on earth they think anyone will go to the o2 when he's playing a much smaller venue is beyond me though.
Is there a pre sale for O2?
Or just the lower tiers?
Same as the Hammersmith Apollo tickets.
be a horrible atmosphereless experience that saps the life out of any thoughtful material?
They cost BARE GREENS THOUGH
£4.25 fees per ticket can fuck the fuck off as well.
I'm printing my tickets at home, the fucks.
However I've not paid to watch any of Louie or his stand up so I'm, errr, not gonna complain too much.
I've wanted to pay for Louie and the standup for long enough to make this less of a hit
when he calls his kids assholes or similar
face value is £82 for the pair.
Yes! Can't wait, been wanting to see him for years.
if anyone's getting rid of 2 hammersmith tickets give me a shout
How's he gonna fill that with 2 hammersmith shows?!
Throwing in a big fuck-off arena as well seems increasingly bizarre unless he's planning on recording a special there or something.
he prolly has a good idea if he can fill it
did seinfeld even sell out? with the £75 tickets or whatever it was
Is that on the same day???
1st show 7pm
2nd show 9.30pm
The O2 show had very positive feedback it seems.
I have a spare ticket (face value) to the Hammersmith 7pm show tonight if anyone's interested.
(yes I know I've not posted on here for a while, no I'm not a fucking tout).
Ticket's just gone.
really looking forward to it. been watching the first series again on Fox. It's still absolutely brilliant.
Oh God, Louie. How can...that is, really bad. That's the worst penis I've ever seen in my life. That is disgusting, it's ... oh my God. This is the worst thing that's ever happened to me, seeing that...and my dad hung himself in front of me - whilst masturbating. But if I could take one of those things back it would be seeing that awful cock. It looks like you've been getting a dog to suck it off but it chewed it like it thought it was a horrible blood and cum filled shoe.
Gervais has a real habit of doing dreadful things in American shows I love whilst being responsible for my favourite British shows.
His character is obviously awful, and thankfully he doesn't really show up much past the first season, does he?
Anyway, I should find that^ funny, but I do. A bit.
It's just so jarring when he is though. He's way too broad a character for it to work in a show like Louie.
is the new jumping the shark. In my book anyway.
Still unsure about Louis so far, enjoyed the first couple of episodes a lot but it seems to have slowed down dramatically.
stick with it!
and I will but the laughs have dried up in the last couple I've seen.
I'm always really interested by how people react to it. It relies so heavily on just finding him a charismatic/engaging presence that if you don't react that way to him there's not much left in the show to enjoy/laugh at. Luckily I could watch him so watchable that I enjoy every single episode like a mini-masterpiece.
if anyone has a spare for the 9 o clock show then hit me up
used to post here all the timmy jenkins. £30 for both. please message if interested. Im selling because I got better seats for the later show.
It was very good. I can't remember my favourite bit though. Great review.
but i havent really liked them that much. i've disliked them enough not to want to go to this tonight actually.
Won't be going to the O2 for a comedy gig again
not sure how i would've felt if we were up in the gods, but we lucked out with seats close to the stage, so it didn't seem like we were in the world's biggest tent.
but yeah....my face ached by the end.
fave bit was the closer....helping the old lady up. almost killed me.
good, good stuff. easily the most i've ever laughed at a stand-up gig
"a short jazz trumpet solo" like the Independent says?
it was quite beautiful. i think a few people (my girlfriend included) expected it to be a gag, but seeing as he uses quite a bit of jazz in louie, i assumed it was just a nice little way to get started. and it was. nice touch.
but i'm pretty sure it was about 90 mins.....8.30 - 10.00.
give or take.
apparently he saw him in a jazz club the night before and just gave him a call, asked him to come along.
he's just tweeted to say there won't be a support tonight, it's just him. ah well.
Tears at several points.
Old lady and her dog.
... BUT MAYBE...
Louis CK you are the best.
Took a while to settle into it due to the rush to get in, not being able to see anything, people around me talking. Once I shut all that out though it was properly excelent.
Observational comedy but on another level.
'Old ladies with handfuls of change are the plankton of the casino world...' :)
But perhaps not his strongest material. Started and ended well but lost me for a chunk in the middle.
Though was getting moderately irked by people getting up and down all the time. Seriously how many times can you go to the bar of for a piss in an hour and 15 minutes? Woman in front of me got up FOUR times
Really unnecessary. Especially as they missed some of the funniest bits.
Also the Apollo was *really* cold where I was sat.
/moan, really though it was 10/10 brilliant times all round.
I was, and I can confirm that it was rife up there. So annoying.
Him doing the actions of the miner wanking off the 55 year old dustman had me in tears. So funny.
Also saw a group of 5 people who seemed to have seat in the front 5 rows rock in at ten to 8. WORTH IT GUYS!
That's amazing, what a bunch of tools. I felt hard done by as he would have stayed onstage longer if I'd been at the later show.
Still, it's easily one of the best stand-up shows I've seen. Absolutely loved it.
so I imagine it was exactly the same set.
The inability of people to sit in a fucking seat for 90 minutes will never cease to amaze me. When I'm world Mayor bars will be closed during the performance itself and there will be one voucher issued per punter for a wee which will be surrendered on entry to the toilets.
but did watch the episode of Louis where his mum came to visit last night. Feels relevant to mention it.
Was in the 3rd row so luckily didn't notice too many people getting up but it is pretty rude. You don't get up during a play so this should be treated similarly I think. Anyway, great show.
Where should i start?
then the Beacon. Or just start with Louie which is his telly show. The the other stand up and round it off with the stuff Ant points to upthread: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4422792#r7285497
They're all here now:
Before that with this bit:
Then listen to the first hour or so of this radio appearance in which he dissects everything that's wrong with modern consumerist/capitalist society in an absolutely perfect way which is totally undouchey and absolutely hilarious:
This page here has a lot of good excerpts/quotes etc but I think he's a comic/filmmaker who relies a lot on finding him watchable and charismatic and personable so watching is better than reading.
I queued for returns but no joy.
When I saw the demographic of attendees I was like oh man there must be so many DiSsers here right now. Also Charlie Brooker was there. *swoon*
was comparable to ATP.
does he still make his support acts watch him bash one off? what happened with that?
jen kirkman quickly took back her comments and said they weren't about him and then it went away
been reading up and apparently the person got confused between him and doug stanhope?
was just some reddit pages that came up on google and some gossip site, was hoping that my question mark might encourage someone with more nous to explain maybe
Uptown top rankin (upper block to the side, quite near the front, but also near the top).
Block: E4 - Row: M - Seats: 84 To 85
LOL why did I get these
and comedy in arenas is shite. ahm oot.
got some tickets in row 5. Shame it's not at a smaller / different venue. Wembley's a bit of a ballache to get to for me, but it's on a saturday so no great hassle and can make a day of it.
Saw him at Hammersmith Apollo last time and would have much preferred to see him somewhere like that.
and there's now two shows at Hammersmith Apollo instead, one at 7pm, another at 9.30pm:
Anyone heard back from SeeTickets or whoever about reallocating tickets?
I'd love see him at the Apollo, and the 12th was the 1st show that was announced. Shouldn't have booked so early!
Only standing at the back for the original Saturday dates
I am going on the Friday, I wonder what is happening with that
and also I'm in Edinburgh until the bloody Wednesday, FUCKING HELL
