  • Sounds about right

I want Silver Linings Playbook to win. Although I preferred Looper and Perks this year neither of them are in with a shot so yeah, I'm rooting for that. None of those top 8 that I've seen don't deserve to be there, and I'm not expecting to be disappointed by Lincoln, Django, Les Mis or ZD30.

  • 3/5 - Hollywood exaltation of the patriotic spirit

    and glorifying the CIA work.
    1. Lincoln
    2. Zero Dark Thirty
    3. Argo

  • Interesting Year

usually by this point you can pretty much forsee who is going to win, because they're hoovering up awards like nobody's business.

I'm concerned about Lincoln, mainly because it's quite boring,(although Daniel Day Lewis is reliably great) and also if DDL and Spielberg win Oscars, they'll both have racked up three wins each. I REALLY want to see Zero Dark Thirty, but I can't see them voting for 2 successive Bigelow/Boal films, likewise voting for 2 successive Tom Hooper films. I think Argo will win best picture and director.

    • Actually

I think they might give Argo best picture and Lee winning best director.

  • Joaquin Phoenix will win best actor won't he?

that seemed like pretty good acting to me

    • he said something about the awards circuit being a load of old tripe

which really shouldn't make a difference, but probably will.

  • Pistorious.

    Again.

  • Pretty much agree with the OP

Lincoln is obviously pure unadulterated Oscar fodder, they should just give DDL the best actor now.

Not sure about Argo being so highly touted as a possible best pictre. I really liked it but its the sort of hollywood picture I can see being a bit shunned during awards season. I think it'll get a best picture nom but I think its chances of winning are much slimmer than the press will suggest.

    • I loved Argo

I finally saw it two days ago (nobody gives a shit about films this in Poland) and I thought it was great.

My only flaws were: one of the women didn't look like she was in 1980, and Tony Mendez's son clearly didn't need to be in it at all. Also, any film that reminds me of All the Presidents Men goes down smooth in my eyes.

  • Oscars are weird.

    • I don't really understand how they work anymore.

Should really be a tie between The Master and Lincoln (haven't seen it but y'know).

  • The Master is the best made

awful movie that you'll ever see. Phoenix should be laughed out of town for such a ripe and wayward performance, but he stands a good shout of getting an Oscar instead.

Not seen DDL in action yet, but overall it seems a thin year in the Best Actor category.
