see you in a bit
The Office is obviously funny and Extras had his moments but he's so, so, so obnoxious.
he's alright isn't he?
1.The fact he sees himself as a detective solving the crime of religion.
2.The magazine cover below.
3.His pathetic disingenuity when he was called out over his 'mong' tweets last year and he pretended to have no idea why people were offended.
4.His pathetic disningenuity when he tried to pretend that Derek wasn't about someone with a learning disability, just someone with a low IQ (i.e. the definition of a learning disability
5.The world's most cringeworthily blatant satire in the Invention of Lying.
6.His general smugness.
but this is all spot on.
* He can't take criticism. It's got to be because he's sooo controversial or because they're jealous. He's never going to progress any further as a comedian.
It's a shame. He was one of my favourite comedians.
* When asked if Karl might have autism, he responded by saying something along the lines of "No, he's good with his hands". Which is more ridiculous than anything Karl has ever said. As someone with autism, I got a bit offended by this. Plus I've always seen as Karl having it, judging by the XFM shows especially.
where he pretends he finds it funny but is clearly really bitter and upset when it happens.
I also used to really have a lot of time for him as a comedian and I'd stress that the Office and, on its day, Extras was superb but he reminds me a bit of David Walliams and Matt Lucas in that, as his career's developed, there's a real sense of mocking the weak or those he considers inferior to him that has crept into his comedy and - because the style of comedy he does including a reaction to political correctness - that seems to often include people with disabilities.
respond to criticism on twitter before by listing the awards he's won. utter knob.
Peter Serafinowicz retweets it sometimes
I agree with all of that stuff above. His comedy post extras feels really really mean-spirited to me
and any piece of work he's done where it manifests.
that includes his twitter, the invention of lying and his whole "i'm.. an atheist" shite in the radio shows.
i feel sick
but they way he says them as though he's coem up with some mega original thoughts. He's like a walking "WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!"
He became completely unbearable shortly after Extras.
I wish he'd have just come out and said it instead of being so vague and dancing around it
but could not equate the two. pushy atheists are clearly preferable, since their ideas are at least based on logical reasoning.
any subject ever except from an extremely narrow range of issues related to whether the christian bible is literally true or not.
at two drunk atheists having a REALLY LOUD REALLY CIVIL SENSIBLE RATIONAL DEBATE on the bus last nite where one of them was like 'O RELIGION IS JUST SO DUM I MEAN THE BIBLE ISNT TRUE LOL' and the other was like "O WELL IF PEOPLE WANT TO HAVE SOME RELIGION TO BELIEVE TO MAKE THEM ACT MORALY AND BE HAPPY THATS OK WITH ME EVEN IF I DONT BELIVE IT BECAUSE I AM JUST SOOOO RATIONAL AND REASONABLE" and i was like I JUST SAW THE PRODIGY AND I HAVE TO GET 2 NITE BUSSES AND I HAVE TO WORK TOMORRO NOTHING ABIUT THIS SITUALTION IS RATIONAL A BIT.
1 hour 6 minutes
i got the time wrong
I really don't mind people being vocally aetheist. After centuries of silence theres a lot of insight to be shared but
his comments are proper pub ntellectual bully tedium. My son is, like me, aetheist but I'm always having to remind him that no one likes a smart arse and sometimes theres more to life than being right. Someone needs to have that chat with Gervais.
so i think hes a brilliant man
people get really really REALLY worked up by him.
I get just as bored of Gervais-bashing as I do Gervais.
It's not exactly a revelation that he's smug guys but you know, tell me it with tons of adjectives.
about people being contrary and reactionary.
His 'on-stage' persona was always about offending ignorant people's sensibilities by appearing to be ignorant himself - a bit like Baron Cohen does with Ali G, Borat etc. It's funny for a bit, usually when the targets are themselves pompous enough to be lampooned, but in the end it becomes boring and starts to look sneery and agressive. Especially when the targets don't deserve it.
