Don't really understand why United fans are so obsessed with Leeds, to be honest; a club who haven't played in the same division for a decade, have only challenged for the title once in about 40 years, aren't even from the same county, ffs.
Pure hate, just because they were better than you, once, twenty years ago. Very strange. If i supported a club who've had constant success, virtually every season for the entirity of my adult life, i don't even think i'd belittle myself by caring about other clubs, particularly the likes of Leeds and Liverpool. Think i'd just adopt a dignified sense of smug at their current plights.
Here's where you pretend it's an actually-historical rivalry that stems from the docks, or the mills, or a gunfight in a field somewhere in 1600, or something else a guy in a suit made up. All just a bit silly, though, innit. You should put a bit of the effort you spend goading Nestor into actually following your own club.
Got a sandwich to eat anyway. Brie, cranberry and rocket. Quite looking forward to it. Hope you have a good day, boss.
Football. It's pretty good.
will have a little cry about Everton again once he's had a sip of sweet sherry.
Ready to strike fear into the heart of Crystal Palace's defence at the weekend. Why did you have to post a pic of him in a Leeds shirt though? No need for that. There should have been plenty in a Huddersfield shirt for you to choose from.
Have to say, last night's League Cup semi-final draw was the worst i'd ever seen. JFH & Literally Jamie, in a cupboard, ffs.
Got a feeling Arsenal will get Malaga. You can never write them off whoever they get given their experience, but i'd expect Barca, Bayern, Juve or Dortmund to beat them over two legs, though obviously they've beat the latter fairly recently. They seem like a different animal Champions League wise this year, mind. Malaga are no pushovers, tbh. Really quite solid defensively, and Isco could ruin Arsenal's back four, but they'd maybe edge through.
The only thing you can be 100% certain of is that United will avoid Real Madrid (and then avoid getting paired with either Barca or Bayern over two legs at any point). Celtic, Milan or Valencia for them. Will go for Valencia.
Celtic v, idk...Schalke.
Wouldn't at all mind PSG v Madrid, and Barca v Porto.
Still finding it all a bit vulgar, though, tbh, and probably won't watch any of the actual football.
where kik starts all the football threads at 7am, are we?
You can still get peoples attention by saying really stupid stuff. Don't worry about it.
GIMME A BREAK HATFOOD.
All that yaya_dzeko stuff seems even weirder now.
kind of need to sign a pacy player to replace him.
Fenerbahce then Chelsea.
Is he still meant to be out of contract next summer and if so why are Liverpool/Tottenham/Arsenal not trying to sign him?
(people don't really say -centric anymore do they)
Who do you reckon is the most prolific diver in english football history?
I think most of them have actually left, but right now it'd undoubtedly be a tie between Young and Suarez. I actually think Young was worse with play acting at Villa, which is saying something
though Gerrard, Nani, Ronaldo, Robben, Drogba, Bale all deserve honourable mentions.
the rest of them got/get kicked about enough without the offender getting punished to even it out a bit
and he had legs like barrels.
I don't think he's prolific, just really really bad at diving when he did it, so it was more noticable / shocking
Both go down at least once every game I see them
did it abroad as well (2 la Liga titles, 2 European Cups).
lots of supposedly great British players don't.
...and getting tackled. attack over.
I really wanted to avoid the German teams as I'm pretty sure they'd destroy us, but Juve are one of those glamourous old school European powerhouse teams. Should be fun
Bring back Lubo!
Lubo was immense that game, had a hand in all four didn't he?
Celtic v Juve
United v Valencia yet to be drawn.
Warmed balls fails AGAIN
you are awesome sometimes
you should've learned from May, bossman.
Two sides of the same coin
w-a-t-c-h-i-n-g (the football nerd's fixture of choice)
I thought I was safe
that, plus the megabucks
I only ^This'd this when the thread was smashed and the 'oh ffs' was under brusma's post.
Can someone cleverer than me or cat_race work out what the mathematical probability of that is please?
because each team only has a small set of other teams that it can play and then the probability for teams changes as the draw unfolds. The probability is a lot lower than you'd think because United for example could only have 6 different opponents to start with.
Strangely fancy Arsenal to overcome Bayern over two legs. Dortmund still set to win it.
Great side, but they'll come unstuck.
Fancy a United/Bayern final, tbh.
there's absolutely no reason why Man United can't beat Madrid over two legs.
City should've taken four points off them, by the sounds of it.
English clubs would need another 3 or 4 years of underwhelming performances to lose a place.
We're streaks ahead of Germany for now and it should see it safe for a while yet.
Newcastle Home, Chelsea Away in the CC. West Ham Away in the FA Cup. Real Madrid in the first knockout stage of the CL (after an easy group stage).
global warming must be having an effect on these draws!
hopefully will be two great games. would have preferred it in the semis, mind.
and assigned the leftover hot ball to the wrong Manchester club.
Think Man Utd will get through reasonably comfortably - Madrid look a tenth as strong as they did last season. I'd be surprised if the two legs produced anything less than 10 goals - 2 of the strongest attacks in europe with pretty shocking defences
The only silver lining in our hilarious/depressing fuck up was that I'd get to see a side we haven't already played in recent years at Stamford Bridge ... Turns out we can get Inter, Napoli, Leverkusen, Atletico and I think a few other teams we've played in the last few years. Bollocks.
£££, nothing more.
If your team gets there, though, as United surely have to have a great chance of doing given they've got to several finals in recent seasons and now have a £75m striker, i'd just go down without a ticket.
Anyone who's been to a major final at Wembley (i have) will tell you that it's virtually the easiest group to sneak into in football. I've been three times, and people just fucking walk in, or others vault the turnstiles and leg it.
* I'd double-check what extra security UEFA might put on beforehand, like.
was at the Community Shield a few years ago, outside one of the Chelsea entrances with my dad having a ciggie before going in. United supporter, fully clad in red and obviosuly pissed as a fart, bought a ticket from a tout no more than 20 feet from our entrance, and began hotfooting it towards our gate, holding his newly aquired ticket at waist height and gazing down at it lovingly. Made it to the gate, finally looked up to see a crowd of blue and a bemused steward, solemnly sighed 'oh fuck' and wandered off, presumably never to return.
Shame that Samaras is going to LITERALLY destroy them.
Either an early exit or a satisfying win against a fellow European giant would do nicely.
I would like Danny Sturridge to sign for us but it looks like he wants a bit too much money. Still, would rather him than Gameiro on loan, which is the back-up.
so swings and roundabouts. the europa league is weird
for a 16-team draw, with the club-specific caveats this draw had, to be drawn twice consecutively.
United and Arsenal have drifted to 16/1 & 40/1 respectively.
Worth a fiver, surely?
when was the last time that happened?
The home leg second maybe even swings it just in United's favour.
Arsenal can beat anyone on their day in the Champions League.
Given how the draw has paired a few of the poorer sides against eachother - Gala v Schalke, Valencia v PSG, Porto v Malaga, both English clubs will know they'd have a great chance of winning it if they get through this round.
I dont even know how you could class madrid as favourites - shocking domestically, not particularly impressive in the group stage.
quite happy for them to lose and mourinho to get the chop really
High odds of 6pm Channel 5, i'd have thought.
8hr train from kyiv, no problem
then :'( at the thought of that 17 year old you've been playing.
That is unless you go down the 'go out ASAP' line, in which case a better team would have been helpful. But a team we've not played 20 times already and a trip to a great city. Good draw.
Should be quite tasty.
Big trip to Ukraine and then the prospect of a trip all the way to Anzhi if we somewhow manage to trick our way past Metalist.
UEFA don't let them play European matches in their stadium due to the war and whatnot.
1) Guess how much it's worth a season (without Googling it).
2) Guess who their senior lawyer is.
if i ever met him i'd give him a firm handshake.
Up to £395 for a personalised metal disk. Crikey.
Lovely that some clubs want their supporters to be visible at their grounds. They have liveried skins, banners and storyboards right around their ground, engraved bricks can be sponsored in the tunnel, there's an onsite cemetery, now this.
Beautiful to see a club with its fans at heart. Nothing like the commercial chore of spending a day at places like Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford. A club is its fans afterall.
Even as a neutral, i must say, what a bloody wonderful football club.
