Thread for posting about carol services you've been to this year (or previous years)
I try and go to one every year. This year I went to my local evangelical Church in Muswell Hill. Massively, massively impressive building. The carol selection was good with lots of traditional favourites. Of personal favourites, they had Silent Night and O Little Town of Bethlehem but no In the Bleak Midwinter.
The production/arrangement was the best I've seen in three years I've started doing this with a string section, a choir, two sopranos (enjoyed those less tbh but it was quite impressive) and even some gospel singers thrown in. The vicar was good though not as good as others I've seen.
Overall:
Carol selection - 8/10
Vicar/service - 7/10
Music and arrangement - 9.5/10
Building and architecture - 8.5/10

went to christ's college in cambs a few years back
it was awesome as f*ck
I imagine it would be. Might try and do that next year...
just insanely atmospheric
candles everywhere in a dark chapel and a serious choir
that & Westminster Cathedral Choir must be the top 2 on the planet
I'd always thought a Christmas Service at Notre-Dame or Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne in Dijon would be knock-out but alas the French can't sing
Westminster v Christ's College here would be good though

i have been asked to do a reading at the schools carol service this year.
probably gonna balls it up.
Went to one in the national football stadium this weekend
was kind of weird

It was a Lucia Konsert http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy%27s_Day
in fact it was a school concert so it was 6 - 18 year olds
and the final 3rd of the recital where they sang all the classical Swedish Lucia/Christmas hymns was really, really beautiful
would have been super, mega awesome if it was just that 3rd and in a Cathedral instead of a football stadium
here's a clip from 2009's concert

I'm going to Carols by Candlelight on Thursday <3
There's a childrens choir in our office restaurant right now
I can hear them from my desk. I really want to go and get a chilli con carne, been looking forward to it all morning but I'm not sure if it's a winning combination.
Used to go to around 3 or 4 every Christmas
mainly at Durham Cathedral, the building and acoustic obviously incredible. When I was younger one was my school carol service (normally playing in the orchestra to accompany the hymns or singing in the choir) which was fun but not the highest quality really.
The other services were by the Cathedral choir, so the music was fantastic. The variation each year between staple carol-service favourites and something a little different was great, plus the guest-speaker was normally a Bishop so usually quite interesting.
Last year was the first time going to a new service (parents moved away) at a much smaller church in York, still pretty good though so I think I'll go again this year.
