have there been any decent live action films in the last decade...
you could imagine watching on tv with your family around christmas time
like: jurassic park, home alone, cool runnings
Hugo? there's pretty much nothing is there

no, none
Does The Muppets count?
I'm making my family watch this on Christmas
good answer
just watched this for the first time
wonderful, wonderful stuff.
Harry Potter
innit?
what?
LOTR?
Ideal for a post-Xmas dinner nap
Antichrist
Could go for an Antichrist / Human Centipede double-header.
So to speak.
anchorman is good
Last Christmas we watched Flatliners
it was an odd choice for a Christmas movie
* any time of the year
If ever there was a film that had aged so badly
Very true
Hence why i'm bringing the Muppets home with me this year.
The Diary Of A Whimpy Kid films are also really funny
Good old-fashioned kids romps with a bit for the adults to nod and laugh at.
why only live action?
Do you have something against Ratatouille?
just cos there's obviously tons of great pixar and animated
stuff over the past decade
Some exceptional animated films
Go so far as to say that it has been The Golden Age of animation
list the best ones!
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
Wall-E
Up
How to Train Your Dragon
Toy Story trilogy
Monsters Inc
Incredibles
Finding Nemo
I really enjoyed TinTin so suck it.
it was pretty good but the faces looked a bit wierd.
Probably some studio Ghibli ones too
Spirited Away
11 years ago weren't it?
was gonna suggest it myself but you're going to have to go for Howl's Moving Castle* instead, sorry
*still not seen
I didn't realise it was so old
I guess Howl's Moving Castle will do even tho I didn't like it quite as much
not seen Ponyo either. or Tales of Earthsea tho that's meant to be not particularly good
Princess Mononoke is the best of those I've seen IMO
(others being Totoro and SA obv)
PM is a rousing psychedelic fight against the destroyers of life, cmooooon
PM is AMAZING
but it came out in 1997 or something
I only watched it for the first time the other day but I was completely blown away.
on a bit of Ghibli kick right now. Totoro's definitely my favourite. might extend it to other anime as well - I don't know a huge amount about it tbh
Nor do I, but this is one of the greatest movies of all time
I can't stop banging on about it, but I'll submit it without introduction - you'll just have to trust me
MIND GAME
http://www.1channel.ch/watch-13787-Mind-Game
obviously Akira too
yeah I loved Akira
(tho prefer the comix)
Mindgames looks cool, will watch it at some point. the last non-ghibli anime film I watched was Paprika which was slightly similar to Inception in it's concept, except y'know, it was actually good
ah yeah been wanting to see that
we should exchange notes when we're done or something
Howl's is my joint favourite Ghibli, along with Totoro.
Haven't watched Spirited Away in years though, should probably rectify that.
think I'm gonna rewatch Howl's at some point soon
was a little disappointed with it when I first saw it but it's grown on me
Tangled
Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-rabbit
i may have preferred chicken run!!
oh god that takes me back
haven't seen that in years
The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists had some great bits. didn't really work overall, and the books are much better (even if there is a horribly inaccurate representation of Nietzsche)
Elf
Super 8
I was a bit underwhelmed by Super 8
It had all of the elements needed for a really good film, but somehow it didn't do it for me.
I think there's a fair bit of cynicism around it
because it's obviously hugely derivative.
I like to think of it as an homage to rather than a rip off of films like The Goonies, Explorers and Stand by Me. Got no problem with that and hope it brings as much joy as those films did, to the younger generation.
Plus, Elle Fanning is superb.
Super 8 was SHITHOUSE
:D
Muppets, Anchorman, Dodgeball, Avengers,
pretty sure he's just saying no to everything.
Wha-?
OP "you could imagine watching on tv with your family around christmas time"..
I love Anchorman but it's hardly one for the kids, unless I want my children screamin "I'm gonna kick you in the ovaries" at each other.
The Spiderwick Chronicles was actually a decent enough film and I've sat through the first Narnia film with my daughter who was five, she enjoyed it. Think the rule is to avoid anything Brendan Fraser/Adam Sandler related.
2012
if only there was a cut which had none of the attempted
character development and was just the disasters one after the other then it'd be PERFECT!
Spiderwick Chronicles
Bridge to Terabathia
Deathly Hallows 1&2
The Amazing Spiderman
definitely not having amazing spiderman
Spiderman 1 and 2 though.
Amazing Spider-Man is better than the Raimi ones imo
and it felt pretty Christmassy for some reason.
First Spider-Man was technically not in the last decade, surely?
Spiderwick Chronicles
is a cracking film!
I dunno
Took the missus' ten year old sister to see it and we were all bored rigid for at least 60% of it.
Mouse Hunt!
Attack The Block
genuine answer btw
I've watched attack the block with the family
was fun
School of Rock
quite pleased with the amount of this's this got
<3 School of Rock
Son of Rambow
The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe
Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the best out of that lot.
Mostly for that kid from Son of Rambow's wonderful performance as cousin Eustace.
HOT FUZZ
so annoying
LOL ITS FAST AND ZOOMY LIKE A BIG BLOCKBUSTER EXCEPT IT'S SET IN A LITTLE TOWN
calm down kermode
no one's asking you to watch it again.
Sky High
We've watched Blades of Glory for the last 3 christmases
The Steve Coogan version of Around the World in 80 Days
Got quite heavily criticised, but it's pretty good action-adventure nonsense that's done quite charmingly.
Otherwise, School of Rock.
Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmeses
are both rollicking romps for the family to enjoy. Game of Shadows starts off a bit miffling but once it hits its stride it is the superior of the two. Lane Price IS Moriarty.
casino royale
district nine
Fookin' Prawns!
FOOK! FOOK!
<3 District 9. Not sure it's family film stuff though. Lot of comedy gore in the last half.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
It's really very good.
The Hole 3d
Let's see
all the Marvel movies (Ironman 1&2, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Avengers)
Pirates of the Carribean (1st one only) Pretty much perfect matinee viewing. Watched it with the not really film watching parents one xmas and they loved it
Stardust - very fun fantasy fairytale
Sherlock Homles (the RDJ ones)
Good choices, although I've not seen Stardust.
Stardust is brilliant
Has literally everything you could want in this sort of film. And more.
This and then Princess Bride
and pshaw to your restrictions on release year.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
not really a family film
or decent
or completely live action
...It's brilliant.
no its not
its appalling
Star Trek
^^^ Great choice.
:|
it's nice if you like lense flare effects.
Well I happen to like, them yeah!
Panavision anamporphic-shot movies were THE BOSS. I *want* my films to look like Star Wars and Die Hard.
I reckon the first pirates of the Caribbean has a good stab at being that type of film, wracked my brain thats the best I could come up with. strange the family film must have the biggest potential market
The Human Centipede?
Or perhaps not.
depends on your family i suppose.
A Serbian Film LOL
now I ain't seen Slumdog Millionaire, nor will I probably
but I'm amazed it hasn't made it into this thread yet
5 FA5T 5 FURIO5 5
Crank
^^^^^^^on heathen's recommendation, my wife and I watched Fast 5 on last Xmas Day
and it was fun as a gun - perfect Xmas film, not sure you'd show it to the kids...but nothing really astray tbh
Crank you'd have to have pretty cool kids to screen in front of. But yeah, two sterling choices
:D
^5
gran torino
it's pretty feel good in a really gritty way, but not so gritty you couldn't watch it with family
actually maybe it is. either way it's great.
Little Miss Sunshine?
The Fall
