Although what I wrote is also true.
i had an incredibly fucked up dream last night. it was really quite something.
i seem to have flashback nightmares to it in times when i'm stressed/particularly on edge.
have you ever done any counselling about it? can't really speak to that kind of traumatic experience but there are ways to lessen the emotional charge off of something like that. ohgood's advice seems a sound a pragmatic approach too.

Agree that counselling has got to be worth a shot.
You basically need to train yourself to recognise you're dreaming when the thing in question appears. And then when you realise you're dreaming you'll wake up.
You can do this by asking yourself "am I dreaming" whenever you think about the thing when you're awake.
then you'll prob have nightmares about that instead.
