Had a few "shavings" of truffle on scallops once. It was at least 8 years ago, now, so I don't know that I could say what the truffle specifically tasted like, but the dish as a whole was sublime.

It tastes like soil.
and people fawn over and go into raptures about, but really probably just tastes like mushrooms. Oysters taste like mussels etc and caviar tastes like the eggs of fish. I'd rather have a hamburger.
Oysters taste nothing like mussels.
Caviar does taste like fish eggs, for a very good reason.
and all shellfish. Slightly fishy, similar texture. Chocolate tastes nothing like oysters. Chicken Tikka Masala tastes nothing like oysters. Mussels taste like oysters. Truffles I have no idea, my point is that people fawn over such items when really they are just quite nice, and they would pretty much ignore it if they were very cheap.
they can be really excellent when fresh and prepared well.
I made sure to have a few mouthfulls without it first so I could see what it added. It was nicer with than without but obvs not worth the price on it's own at all.
