When you're cooking something and using a jar of sauce or similar...
it's perfectly normal when, after pouring it into your pan or what-have-you, to get the rest of the stuff out of the jar, you can splash a bit (just a small bit) of water into the jar, close it up, give it a shake, then tip the rest into the pan. No waste, no fuss. I grew up watching my dad do this and I do the same. Yet my better half has suggested this makes me cheap and disgusting.
I'm right though, aren't I.

yeah cause my parents were loads poorer they still do this
also it waters it down a bit which means you end up with more
Exactly.
Subthread:
When you were a kid having a family meal and it looked like you weren't going to clear your plate, did your parents ever say: 'Just finish your meat'. Because it's the most expensive part and it's bad to see it go to waste.
No.
They'd say 'just finish your veg'
i always ate veg cause it was a treat we didn't always have fresh veg
also we didn't have snacks so i was always hungry
yes.
and 'leave your bloody potatoes' cause they were the cheapest
Yeah, absolutely
I don't usually need the whole jar so nope, not doing this ever thanks very much
Are you cooking for one?
Me and the gf easily got through a curry the other night made with a whole jar of Lloyd Grossman (god bless you, Lloyd) Korma sauce.
No, two
but I've changed my mind and instead want to take the 'I make my own sauces, you useless fucks' indie point bonus line of argument instead now anyway.
You are right, for once.
I do this with pasta sauces and stuff as it just adds a little bit of extra moisture which would probably get evaporated. Also do it with pesto as it makes it go a little bit further.
We're only talking about 2 table spoons of water MAX.
With pesto I usually add in a bit of olive oil and do the same.
But yeah, just enough to get the stuff off the inside of the jar.
Theres already too much oil in pesto
don't wanna be covering my pasta in oily stuff. Water is the best method.
ugh, what sort of person would use a jar?
I forgot to allocate indie points,
but feel free to help yourself.
I tend to make my own sauces
(100 indie points)
Plus I don't have taps (I live in a not-house, with forzaborza)
(200 indie points)
Furthemore, I don't actually COOK anything: bit environmentally unfriendly, no?
(450 indie points)
yeah of course
I do that with chopped tomatoes too.
It's fine
get rid of her pronto
I'm sorry love, but I've decided to dilute our relationship.
FIX
the sauce in the jar already contains loads of water that
will reduce off while it cooks. adding just a little more makes no difference at all
anyone who doesn't do this probably buys toast from a cafe
you know what...NO
makes fuck all difference. like rolling a toothpaste tube up with a key, just let it go. not worth the hassle.
I don' t think this has anythign to do with poverty
It's to do with just wanting to get everything out the jar.
^this
surely you have to rinse it out anyway to put it in the recycling? (+65 indie points)
I just tweeted this thrad.
