I always get this sotry wrong but I'm sure it's was Niemeyer
who visited Manchester once, in his 80s or something, and his car broke down on the concrete car ramp ont he way up to PIccadilly Hotel so he asked the guys in the van behind to push it the rest of the way up and they were the Commodores. He just sat in the car as they pushed him all the way up :)
