OK Cupid - the ongoing battle of feminism vs rape culture
As an island nation we don't really eat a lot of fish or seafood. Sure your nan might have a bit of plaice and we've all dabbled with some prawns now and then but compared to some other European countries eg Spain, Italy, Greece etc we are well behind. Perhaps it's the climate and culture.
How often do you eat fish and seafood and how often when going out for a meal do you choose either fish or seafood? Have a think and let me know.

fish at home - maybe 2/3 times a week
fish when out - only in a fish restaurant, so not very often
fish is pretty expensive though
that's probably slightly above average, presuming you are not lying
what fish do you have?
salmon mostly
fish and veg is my standard tea at the moment
barely ever, i'm well scared of it
gf though, always, she loves it
why are you scared?
the bones? the little eyes?
nah, bones don't bother me, eyes? nah i don't think so
i'm not sure tbh, i'm definitely a culinary buffoon. maybe some of the food things look too much like bollocks and now all seafood scares me
a culinary buffoon
what are the ones that look like balls?
muscles?
or cockles or something?
bones are fine, eyes don't really bother me
i'm unsure. maybe i just have a really unsophisticated pallette
two different replies for you there
the bones fuck me off
can;t be arsed with that shit
Raping of fish is just wrong
and you shouldn't make jokes about it.
yesterday alone I snacked on pickled cock
les and then had baked mackerel for tea
maritime cuisine is surely the zenith of the gastronomic cosmos
I really like seafood
I rarely eat it though, as, to be honest, I have better things to do.
I am good at cooking seafood
I rarely eat it though
I think historically we ate loads more fish
in coastal areas anyway, but it's pretty much impossible to make money as a fisherman(OR WOMAN) these days so that's why.
you're a miserable piece of shit, for sure
not sure why this is here
pig is the shit. that was my point
that's not going to happen
Rick Stein or Hugh said something about us a nation not eating a lot and exporting a lot of that has been caught to Spain and Portugal as there is no demand for it here.
It's very common to hear someone say they don't eat fish. Very common.
quite a few people I know will not eat any fish or seafood
I find it strange but it seems fairly common.
The sea is a strange beast, some people don't trust it.
I'd gladly pave over the ocean
Full of fucking weirdos
I would miss eating some of them though
Start any thread on tuna and a million DiS crybabies will start telling you how weird it is.
And prawns, Christ, the amount people whinge on you'd think they were actual aliens.
I love seafood though, but I never seem to have it much. I guess it's bad for the environment though so I'm doing the right thing.
Britain eats a lot of fish,
But in the least creative way, compared to other countries, especially Mediterranean countries and even the east and west coasts of the US.
Didn't the idea of battered fish (with chips) come from Portuguese immigrants anyway, barely more than a century ago.
One wonders how the British ate their fish before that.
don't really know what's so creative about foreign fish dishes...
usually it's just a bit of lemon and salt or whatever. there's more rules for what not to do. the japanese don't even bother cooking it !
Seafood is amazing...
The Med countries just do it a lot better than us...fresh as fuck, straight on to your plate. Having said that, we have some of the finest seafood around so it's odd we don't eat more...
The obvious ethical complications of buying fish means I don't eat as much as i'd like.
Freshly caught (ideally by yourself) fish is by the far the tastiest, both for your palate, and for your (lemon) soul.
what are the obvious ethical complications of buying fish?
...the (relatively) unchecked plundering of wild fisk stocks...
...fish-farming, and indiscrimate fishing methods are the big 3. The availability of more ethically sound fish in the supermarkets has improved markedly over the past few years but i'd wager that the most popular fish purchase will be farmed salmon, which is generally a very bad choice in terms of environmental impact.
All that stuff about local fish being just as good as proper fish
is bollocks. Whenever I'm enough of a sap to order the bed-wetting shit fish it's always pappy flavourless crap. Someone just needs to find a way of cloning cod.
Ah yes...
the taste sensation that is cod. Steady on there Heston...!
It's more of a texture thing actually
Ok...well in that case
you need to plunder close relatives of the cod, like Coalfish or Pollock...the latter is especially amazing. Next time i'm in London(?) we can go to billingsate together, yeah?
I will say it just the once, too,
that a thoughtfully-composed Mediterranean fish soup is literally unbeatable
unless by a thoughtfully-composed seafood paella or risotto
I eat fish about twice a week
Sometimes I eat more, but rarely less.
I'd eat a lot more if I hadn't developed a shellfish allergy.
At home - once or twice a week
Out - Never.
Fish (non shellfish) for me is a boring dinner that I eat to be healthy/diet. So if I'm going out, I wouldn't have it because I want something fatty. Cause I'm a fatty.
not very often actually
probably choose something with prawns
fucking love prawns
At home, usually about once a week
It will usually be some kind of pan friend fillet of something or other, or some tinned mackerel used in a pasta sauce.
Very rarely order in restaurants. Just prefer meat/landfood.
I'm a big fan of the 'moules frites' though.
big, big fan of fish and seafood
have some most days
can be pricey in restaurants, but it's sometimes the best option by far
try to pick up some trout
or salmon every week from the market, people are missing fish oil from their diets for sure
my portuguese grandad used to eat giant fish heads, he'd pop the eye out with a spoon and suck on it for ages....i used to be left in awe as a wee man
cant beat eating fish when you're on the coast in portugal
at home, once a week
out - yeah, sometimes. my general rule when at a restaurant is to try and eat something i wouldn't cook for myself. i rarely bother with expensive fish like seabass etc so yeah, I'll eat it when out
that's a good general rule
Having fish every time you eat out?
That's a crap rule.
That's not the rule, idiot
first rule of fish club:
don't let Royter join fish club
I never said it was, idiot
Now, to go back to my original point: having fish every time you eat out is a crap rule.
I eat a lot of fish and shellfish
I have to eat out with work quite a lot and if I alays went for the meat options, I'd be the size of a house. SO I'll try to have fish or shellfish when I'm out (and somebody else is paying).
I had a lot of oysters the other night though, and cornish fish stew, when I was out with friends (at SHeekeys- service at which has gone downhill so much, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody, even if the oyster bar is a bit of an institution.).
see if you can get through a whole post without boring on about your massively exciting social/work life
uh oh.
I think Dave's been round that roundabout again.
I'm not cycling for a bit
Aching all over after yesterday's fall. Which wasn't anyone's fault but my own.
if you think it's exciting, you're welcome to it
I find it mostly dull and abhorrent. (the work bit, any way.)
great so we finally agree on something.
You sound very bitter
I hope you feel better soon </cat_race>
No I don't
cheers up david, or whatever your name is
it's ok
yeah, cheers up david
:')
ahaha
Was gonna do Sheekeys for wedding anniversary but they were booked out. Offered places at the bar and sounded miffed when I declined. Did Wright Bros Soho instead and they killed it, would recommend, plus relatively inexpensive for a gourmet seafood restaurant in London
Apparently you're supposed to eat 2 WHITE fish and 1 OILY fish per week
To go with your 35 portions of fresh fruit and veg, 100 litres of water etc etc.
The problem with fish is it's expensive, a little bit boring and stinks if it goes wrong.
you can fuck off an all
yes
the smell when it goes wrong.
Basically the reason there's about three of those plug in air fresheners in our house.
that's not the real reason now is it?
You can get special Chef candles
mmmm oily fish
Can I clarify, is this a culinary insult?
From a kiwi?
I will NOT clarify what I meant by that
Just be careful around food
you wouldn't want a ruinous bout of diarrhea.
(NB I don't even follow rugby)
oily fish is so much tastier
so I just try to ignore that piece of advice.
fishing in the med: catching a nice tan in the glorious morning sun.
fishing in the north sea: full yellow plastic suits and 'man overboard' all round.
case: closed.
I can see bob dylan singing that
fucking hell :DDD
I had to leave the office twice because of this
just wanted everyone to know that
I still don't get it
you're such a square
don't you read Mojo? Or Q?
what about the scandi/nordic countries
they love a bit of fish the silly little goujons
vikings mate.
they love getting out in the sea with their mighty beards and showing off how hard and manly they are.
it's not really the same with guys from Hull.
:D well this thread suddenly turned amazing
cheers
