was thinking before about how my experiences with caribbean food have been mixed at best....
can anyone recommend some nice off-the-bone caribbean dishes (to buy, not make)?
nowt with fish in it.
great stuff, lads.

you're in the wrong city for it.
nah.
Dougy's takeaway's pretty legendary, boss.
there's your recommendation sorted then.
jerk chicken with rice and pea
is that off the bone?
well the rice and pea aren't
He ate it of his own accord
They really do like some dodgy stuff
Cow foot anyone? Ackee and saltfish - ugh
Don't mind curry goat / rice n peas I s'pose
aye.
like a few slices of hard banana for £1.50
eh?
Take after your mother obviously.
Curry patties are pretty good
Like spicy cornish pasties, only softer and less chunky

I've got a jar of this that's been sitting in my cupboard for two and a half years

I can post it to you if you like or you can nip down and collect it?
I've got some of that!
Well, I had some. If you ever use it don't make anything whilst you're drunk, and follow the serving suggesting.
I tried making something ignoring both pieces of advices and put about 4 tablespoons of it into this curry thing I made. Was literally the hottest thing I've ever taste. Almost made me cry.
It's really, really hot isn't it
I've used it before but this particular jar has just gotten lost in the back of the cupboard
serving suggesting
off-the-bone?
it's pretty much all on the bone. once i even found a bone in a patty.
It seems to usually consist of low quality meat with jerk seasoning dumped on top. Just have some fried plantain with your next microwave corned beef
goat curry is brilliant
Yeah, but you like it on the bone
boner
Did you ever go to Vernon's?
order from Negril in Brixton
Jamboula on Acre Lane is pretty decent too
Cant beat some plantain with a festival
oh a misread
you're up north
plenty in london pal
on one of your coach trips to london
pop into Fish Wings n Tings in Brixton Village...utterly scrumpcious
Had a proper sit-down caribbean at Vincents in Chester
That was pretty good
Never been blown away by a Caribbean meal in this country
that wasn't home cooked. I think it's because most restaurants are cheapskates and seriously scrimp plus many of the authentic ingredients just aren't available here.
ox tail stew or something
My (ex)mother-in-law used to cook cornmeal porridge
which she shared with me
