Christmas trees - when does yours go up?
So I got into a Facebook argument yesterday about Xmas trees as some of my loser friends seem to have been completely hit by the Xmas bug and are posting photos of their trees and decorations.
I thought people didn't put their trees up till later in December? Putting up a tree as soon as it's December strikes me as being completely ridiculous. These lads probably sit on the couch and shed a tear to the John Lewis advert...

As a kid we always did it on the 12th
Now I do it on the nearest weekend to the 12th.
usually about 2 weeks before the big day.
although this year i probs wont get one. our house it way too small to fit one in.
too soon
I bought one at the weekend as B&Q had a good deal on
and we put it up. I think the first weekend in December is early, yes, but fuck you and the tree looks amazing and I enjoyed it.
I think i set a trend because we put ours up on Saturday and the rest of the street started to put theirs up on sunday.
Put ours up yesterday
cheers
Yeah we did this yesterday.
It would be next weekend ordinarily we put it up but I'm away so we did it this weekend.
Very nice it is too.
on my wife's birthday
which is this Friday. Too early for my liking, but makes her happy.
not doing christmas this year
cheers
why?
me either
didn't do it last year either, instead I took advantage of being home alone and the neighbours being away by not getting dressed, doing some late night DIY and spring cleaning with music on incredibly loud. Only downside was I forget to buy any food or drink and everywhere was shut, so I was pretty hungry :/
Around the 14th
When I was a child, it was the first day of the school Christmas holidays,
So ususally somewhere around the 21st. Now it's whenever I go home, so usually the 23rd, sometimes even Christmas Eve. I find people putting them up at the beginning of December really weird.
why really weird?
It just seems strange to me
I don't even begin to think about Christmas until mid December. Also, a real tree would lose most of its needles if you had it up for that long, and I don't like fake trees.
Also, a lot of people who get excited about Christmas really early consider it to be over on the 27th. For me, Christmas doesn't start until Christmas Eve, but goes on until a couple of days ito January.
weirdo
Not weird at all
After all, the tweleve days of Christmas are 25th December - 5th January.
massive weirdo
There is definitely more excitement before Christmas than after
I don't want to be feeling christmassy when I'm sitting back at my desk on January 3rd.
but you definitely still want to feel Christmassy on 30 December,
probably until 1 or 2 January. I never put a Christmas tree up in my house as I'm never there for actual Christmas, but I think the Christmas period when I feel Christmassy is about 10 December to 2 January. Mind you I'm going to a Christmas party this Sunday which is the 9th.
Nah, I'm done with Christmas by like the 28th.
Thats when all the leftovers are gone.
usually 22nd - 24th
Christmas Smees
you bloody love this stuff don't you!
It really tickles me for some reason.
Sorry.
Gonna do it next weekend to please my boyfriend
He wanted to do it this weekend but I say no because its far too early. I'd like to do it around the 15th. It means I'll spend less time this month sweeping up pine needles.
november 14th
Good to hear the majority of people wait a bit
I was beginning to think I'd missed some meeting where it was decided trees and decorations go up at the start of December.
were you?
you stupid idiot!
We went for the 1st this year
think we might make it a family tradition. Last year we didn't get round to it til Christmas Eve, so I felt I should make up for it this year. I love Christmas and like to enjoy it for more than a week. I even Bublé'd it up on the way to work this morning. Bite me.
Put mine up on Saturday
If there wasn't so much Christmas stuff in the outside world I don't think I'd bother til later but it feels a bit drab indoors when all the shops are full of gift wrap, mince pies, decorations etc and all the tv is chocca with festiva adverts. Plus it means I'm allowed to open the tins of chocolates. The tree's in the corner of the lounge and brightens the place up a bit so what harm is it doing? Presents don't go under til Christmas Eve though.
UNSUSTAINABLE
Plus
I have decided I can't have an advent calendar floating around with no accompanying decorations.
What are peoples opinions on putting up decorations even though your not even
gonna be at home for christmas. I dont see the point.
yep, there is no point
What a bunch of miserable bum hats.
I put mine up yesterday. Along with ALL of the decorations.
this is a stock response
You don't put up decorations as early as other people do and you're immediately branded as being 'miserable' etc.
watch it Chintz
this person gets into facebook arguments.
it wasn't really an argument
I left some abuse under a photo and got some abuse back.
just a bit of banter
housemates put it up yesterday.
have also taken to blaring christmas songs.
24th
Mid December, usually a couple of weeks before Christmas.
Ours is probably going up on on the 15/16th
cos it's our last free weekend before Christmas day cos we're going to Ireland for a wedding on the 22nd.
A wedding? On the 22nd of December?
Ah?
JUst checked the minutes of the last weekly family meeting and it looks like
we've agreed this Sunday as the official start of Xmas.
Yeah around the 12th or so. Maybe 10th at the earliest.
It's still too early. Take them down, everyone.
Real tree Vs Fake tree
Used to get a real tree but since last year I've gone for the fake tree option and my life has improved considerably. Thanks.
P.S I also listened to Christmas songs whilst decorating the tree and then watched Elf and ate some ecclefechan tarts. I AM MAN.
Yeah, pretty much all of this.
We'll be putting our FAKE tree up next weekend whilst listening to christmas songs, then we shall watch Elf. Maybe a port.
CHRISTMAS.
Your Christmas is inferior to my Christmas
I've never been more proud
I don't put it up until the 9th!
(Hmm)
