NFL WEEK 13 - ALL GAMES RENDERED POINTLESS
By Jovan Belcher killing his girlfriend and himself in quick, horrible succession.
Nonetheless, all games going ahead, even KC's game with Carolina. Hard to see how this is at all appropriate, but I'm sure there are reasons, and if nothing else, money talks in the NFL like no other sports league in the world. Make of that what you will.
Tricky one this for the NFL too - can't make too much fuss over him since he basically murdered someone yesterday. A very difficult line for the KC players to tread.
Anyway, I haven't got the stamina to do a full preview of the games, so I'll let you guys pick your favourites. Steelers Ravens stands out, but without big Ben it looks a bit of a foregone conclusion. And Jets Cards should be an absolute How Not To of offense.

Still can't believe they're going ahead with the Chiefs Panthers game today
Just seems ridiculous to me. Having said that I was going to watch the Seahawks Bears game from the earlies but I think I'll probably watch this instead. You're right about it being a tricky one, whatever happened is obviously tragic but its definitely not the same as when Sean Taylor was killed, you won't be seeing JB stickers on their helmets
As far as the Steelers Ravens game goes
Really can't see us getting out of there with the win. Our gameplan is so painfully obvious I don't know how Baltimore could possibly fail to stop it: run it every down with Dwyer and hope Batch can convert on 3rd and short. If the Ravens stack the box this game will be over by halftime.
The only chance of an upset will come from turnovers on defense, if Flacco or Rice give up the football it could be a different story.
It's incredible how much
A team can be so reliant on their QB. Probably the case for, what, at least 20 of the teams in the NFL? Take out the starting QB and their chances of winning are decimated. I can't think of another team sport where there is so much reliance on one player.
Here's some stats from Grantland that won;t make you feel any better at all.
• The Ravens are 33-5 at home (including playoffs) since John Harbaugh became their head coach.
• The Ravens are 4-9 against Pittsburgh in Ben Roethisberger starts.
• The Ravens are 5-0 against Pittsburgh if an injured Roethlisberger is watching from the sideline.
One good thing about being a Jets fan is that it probably wouldn't change much if our quarterback was knocked out
Agree with the cynicism in the last thread
Would anyone have watched Panthers v Chiefs if this hadn't have happened? Reckon it'll still be a stinker of a game.
Not sure which of the early games to watch, reckon Bucs v Broncos could be a treat though.
Two of the potential best games of the year tonight
Seahawks - Bears and Bucs - Broncos.
And one of the worst. Damn Jets.
awful situation in KC
Can't believe the game is going ahead - I imagine it'll be an awkward atmosphere to say the least
I'm staying away from it and hoping the fins can upset the pats. If we do, we're right in the mix for a wild card spot
All this deliberating over which game would be decided by which field was the snowiest.
<3 a snow game!

I've decided on the 49ers at the Rams good to watch a west coast team and Steven Jackson
changed to watch Meagtron, crowd noise at the Rams is unbearably loud.
Looks like Jay Cutler is wearing one of the oversized concussion proof helmets
It's probably a good idea for all QBs to wear those, it would make it harder to tackle them without making contact to the head too
Shutter to think how good AP would be if the Vikes had any passing game whatsoever
Like Seattle to upset Chicago.
Like 49ers to squeak past Rams. Like 'em better if they'd trade Alex Smith to the Vikings.
Score updates on Fox are funny cos they've got team vs teams who aren't playing each other.
Hats off to KC who appear to be playing pretty well all things considered, erm, like, they're terrible and the usual NFL murder-suicide thing.
finally we know what it takes for Sanchez to be benched
10-21, 97 yards and 3 INT. Amusingly, Tebow inactive today, so they've just chosen some guy out of the crowd who had this year's jersey.
It's Greg McElroy who used to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide
When they were a passing team. Led them to a BCS championship and is a pretty smart guy - equalled Fitzpatrick's record breaking wonderlic score
touchdown!
rolltide
Yeah, maybe
But has he had enough reps at practice to master the butt-fumble yet?
give it time
Interceptions currently outnumbering points in that one
Is anyone watching and is it as awful as it sounds?
even I baulked at that one
though now McElroy's in I'm tempted. Currently enjoying the 'Hawks game
I bloody love Russell Wilson
Immense, immense drive
By the Seahawks. Russell Wilson, calmest man in Chicago.
Apart from Cutler, maybe...
OMG MEGATRON!!!11!
The human highlight reel indeed.
12 catches, all pretty spectacular for 163 yds.
5th straight game over 125yds, how has he not won a superbowl singlehandedly yet?
can't believe i was actually considering trading him from my fantasy team a few weeks ago
i've got 3 straight wins pretty much thanks to him
HOLY SHIT BRANDON MARSHALL
All Seattle had to do was not let that happen
And they didn't do it. Richard Sherman was way too casual there; should've tried to swat it down
withdrawal symptoms from the Adderall
:D
They have been looking a little twitchy
20 seconds left.
Just don't allow a 50 yard catch. That's all.
Sometimes you'd like to hear the defence explain themselves to the offense, or vice versa, cos that one will take some explaining.
He's done it again. Twice in the same game
I think I'm becoming a Seahawks fan.
I think I might be too.
Root for them in every game that doesn't involve the Saints. So much fun to watch.
Their defence plays hard, and Russell Wilson is as likeable as he is talented. He reminds me of Brees so much- and not just the height thing- he seems like a natural leader. Puts the team on his back when they need it. Think he's got a big future in this league.
Colts headcoach just got smoked by Carey on the sideline
gotta love the instant replays of absolutely everything.
LOOK AT THIS BLOCK

How is Phil Simms considered one of the better pundits
He just talks gibberish
They all do
Only one worth listening to is Mike Mayock.
Simm's is the worst though plus he gets Jim Nantz as his partner and all the best CBS games.
I like Mayock but he does have a habit of referring to every player as 'one of the best in the league'. It bothers me more than it should.
Gruden and Collinsworth are pretty good too, their analysis is usually spot on.
yeah collinsworth is great
Gruden is good yeah
Collinsworth isn't too bad, occasionally drops some incredible howlers. Remember him crediting Suh (they all do this) for something when actually it was Nick Fairley. I dislike the way most commentators focus on marquee players rather than calling out who actually makes the play, even with the benefit of instant replays and slo-mo. This is why I like Mayock. Him and Charles Davis.
For me Mayock is good at picking out the unsung heroes
I'll stomach a bit of hyperbole for a guy who can actually tell me what's happening when looking at the film
That was a great pass from Flacco; pretty much impossible to defend against
This game is starting to slip away from us, the offensive play calling has been way off. Getting to 3rd and short and bombing it 40 yards downfield is not how we're gonna win this game
Great run from Dwyer, nice block from Batch!
Need the D to step up now
How do you drop the ball when you're just running along?
Happened several times this season, that Sanders one is REALLY embarrassing.
I'll be seeing that fumble in my nightmares if we lose this game
Should've been a TD, ended up giving Baltimore 7 points
Lovely TD from Miller
It'll be a crime if he misses the pro bowl this year, he's always been massively underrated as a TE but this season he's been fantastic
So happy right now. Biggest win I've seen as a Steelers fan that wasn't in the playoffs or Superbowl
I thought Batch played great, Baltimore really didn't look prepared for him making some of those throws. I loved how emotional he got when the game ended; you could't find another 3rd string QB as dedicated to his team as he is, the guy is Pittsburgh through and through.
Bit of a shame the Bengals and Browns won as well though.
bah
I only saw the second half but from what I saw you deserved it
everyone except us clinched their divisions or playoffs who could have today
fuck off
fucking hell
it wasn't just KC: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8701653/cleveland-browns-team-employee-kills-self-practice-center
Fantasy faux pas: I dropped Luck for Romo this week.
It could have been a LOT worse. Also, if I get to the playoffs it will be entirely thanks to Dez Bryant. What a guy. Oh yes and AP of course.
And so it comes down to this. 34 points clear of 3rd place The Johnny Sacks with the winner guaranteed to make the playoffs. Only RG3 stands in my way.
Had an absolute fantasy disaster this week
Very concerned that Foster and Andre won't see many snaps now the Texans are safely in the play-offs. My second highest scorer this week was my kicker :/
Man, i'm nervous.
I think you're going to do it. Unless RG3 has another 30 point game, which is entirely possible I guess. Witten was downed at the 1 last night... if he'd managed to get into the endzone I would be a lot more confident.
Gonna email this to every member of The Johnny Sacks tonight:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_iKg7nutNY
Its pretty quiet at work.. might watch the Steelers game again :-)
Gonna have to watch that Colts Lions game this week too; I really like Indy this year but I kind of need them to stop winning so much before they steal one of the wildcard spots! It would be a great way for Bruce Arians to get his revenge on us.
Colts Lions game was really good, at the half i thought i'd picked the wrong game
but Luck was given one chance.
Lions were gutted, playoff hopes over. They wouldn't have beaten all remaining teams on their schedule anyway.
Stafford's face when the Colts scored the winner was priceless
The Lions need to get better on defense if they want to be a playoff team again; Avery should never have been allowed into the endzone that easily.
What do we think about MNF?
Would love to see a Skins win, they're definitely the most likeable team in the NFC East plus if they win it'll blow that division wide open.
National stage for RG3, suited him pretty well on Thanksgiving.
can't wait
hard to predict too. Quite like both the Giants and Skins but hope RG3 does it, but it just depends which Giants show up!
Looks like a nice win for the Skins last night, haven't watched the game yet though
Would really like to see them go on to take the NFC East now, I could definitely see RG3 causing problems for a bigger team in the playoffs.
Also Brady Quinns statement after the Chiefs win about Jovan Belcher was surprisingly profound (at least for a football player): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-e-T39Z80
big match sunday
DENVER vs OAKLAND tonight
could get pretty brutal
I quite like Oakland to surprise some people tonight
Just kidding, Peyton is gonna make it rain TDs; I reckon Thomas and Decker both have big nights.
Denver 35 Oakland 6
Yeah could be a total doing
not sure I can justify staying up for it
were you considering it, really?
haha
no job yet so aye
yeah
i seem to be watching this
Palmer
with only 1 INT in the first quarter. 1st down in the red zone.
fucking hell, rough week:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000107605/article/josh-brent-arrested-after-car-crash-kills-teammate
awful
but surprising that no one is discussing postponing the dallas game to be called off like they were with the jovan belcher incident last week...
