Has anyone set up a limited company before?
What's the process? Companies House website is a bit confusing in places. To get a certain contract, the missus needs to be registered as a limited company, which she'll then be able to use to do freelance work too. In layman's terms, what does she need to do?
Much appreciated x

Go for the bronze plus package and that will get you everything you need to set up a business bank account. They always try and throw extras in your basket so get rid of them setting up a bank for you (go to your usual one), and you dont need a office address. Saves a lot of time and takes around 10 mins to do
Amazing scenes.
Many thanks!
This sort of site is great if you don't know what you're doing
but if you've got a mate who is a solicitor or an accountant then they should be able to help you for free.
what is it she's freelancing in?
Ach, I hate talking about real life on here. Don't worry about it.
But I appreciate your interest. Back to lurking again now, cheers.
Yeah loads of people
just register at companies house, sure you can do it online
as far as i can remember they provide you with model articles so you just need to give your details and a registration fee. need to submit your accounts to CH annually too.
any third party will just try to sell you something extra you don't want/ need. i could probably explain better but i've had a vino.
i can do it for you for nothing (bar the Companies House fees)
That's v v kind, thanks
But we used the website above, was only £16 so we just went for it then & there. Cheers!
this is right up my street
you need to do more than register the name at companies house
you will need a minimum of two directors plus a company secretary who is fully qualified. https://www.gov.uk/limited-company-formation
those requirements are for a public company, not private
yep
private limited company can essentially just be yourself as the sole directory if you wish.
directory? no. director. although i would rather think of myself as the chairman.
dont forget that she can now get business accounts
on things like mobile phones thus saving money on regular consumers
Oh wow, nice work.
Cheers!
I am registered as a business in Australia
I have nothing else.
Oh, actually one more question:
She needs her Unique Taxpayer Reference asap. Will that be sent automatically once HMRC get her details from Companies House, or does she need to notify them direct?
Ta!
bump for the sensible Sunday night crew
Okay, so why is this still not on the frontpage of the boards??
Now it is. THAT WAS WEIRD.
