How quiet is your office/place of work?

Starstripe [Edit] [Delete] 32 replies 12:21, 28 November '12

Ours is ridiculously quiet; so much so, you could probably hear a mouse fart. Bit disconcerting at times and when you speak you feel as if your conversation is being honed in on by the whole place.

What about you?

  • there are loads of people here that i don't know who they are. one of them that i do know has the surname MOLD

also my boss has asked me to work out what happens if we change a box height to 285. i've already shown that going from 250 ro 230 is a good thing. i'll sit here and do nothing

But 6music is always on in the background to hide any awkwardness.

  • We mainly skype each other here, rather than speak

Is that weird? I get out of work and want to talk a lot.

    Starstripe | 28 Nov '12, 12:33 | X

  • It can be very quiet

early mornings, later at night. It can be very loud, to the point where people all around you are cackling and reciting loud nob jokes while I am trying to talk to a member of the public.

    steinbolt | 28 Nov '12, 12:36 | X
  • Pretty normal for a small office room

except for one chap who spends all day, every day shouting down the phone. He looks a bit like Gandalf without the beard and is really, really annoying.

    colinzealuk | 28 Nov '12, 12:37 | X
  • Usual office sounds of printers, clicking, tpying, squeaky chairs, and that.

Nothing special. It's more lively than my last place which was like a fucking morgue.

  • If it gets too noisy I just close my door to shut out the secretaries endlessly nattering about shite

Might trying asking one of them to bring me some ice next time I'm hungover. See how that goes.

  • Very quiet

I have music in my ears the whole time I'm sat at my desk unless the phone rings.

We talk to each other obviously but everyone just gets on with work / procrastinating.

  • same as yours

I often find myself whispering to people, half wondering why I feel the need to whisper.

    CillaCrack | 28 Nov '12, 13:02 | X
  • as loud..

...or quiet as I choose it to be.

I usually put music on loud.

    stickboy | 28 Nov '12, 13:21 | X
  • Pretty quiet.

It says something that I'm the 'chatty one' and I hardly ever talk. We usually have the radio on in the background (Radio 1 or the local station) to cut through the tension.

    boydungud | 28 Nov '12, 13:23 | X
  • ours is pretty loud

lots of chat, quite a lot of audible arguments and a fair amount of pissing about. The loudness normally increases as the week goes on.

    commandercool | 28 Nov '12, 13:36 | X
  • depends how many people are blaring music out from their computers/offices/radios.

i tend to have headphones on for the entire day so i have no idea really.

    meths | 28 Nov '12, 13:46 | X
  • very, very quiet until the loud lady starts rantering.

    then it's quite loud.

    thewarn | 28 Nov '12, 13:49 | X
    • yes, rantering!

      look it up!

        deadonthestairs @thewarn | 28 Nov '12, 14:59 | X
  • very changeable

if the learning team are in then it's incredibly busy and quite loud, but when they're not here it's often more sedate and quiet. When it's loud I have to wear headphones in order to get any work done as it can get incredibly distracting.

    • THE LEARNING TEAM

Defo sounds like a good team. Not quite the A Team but 100% a great bunch o lads.

      wilykit @1_234589 | 28 Nov '12, 14:57 | X
      • haha yeah!

and a few weeks ago we set up a Digi Team! Today at our whole team meeting, it was pointed out that the three of us in the Digi Team were all wearing grey jumpers and glasses...

  • monday - wednesday - quietish

    friday - very, very quiet

  • Depends

    Timed essay/exam: silent
Me pontificating at the board: medium
    Groupwork: riot

    MrScagdenSir | 28 Nov '12, 14:54 | X
  • the place I work has been as good as a construction site since I started working there

broke the ground for construction a four story building 50m from my office more or less the day I arrived, then started on a second one right next to it as soon as they'd finished the first.

Plus, all last month there were tradies outside my office window setting up scaffolding and clambering about on the roof. It sounded like they were using the space as a training ground in preparation for the shot-put events at the 2016 Olympics.

    robluvsnic | 28 Nov '12, 14:57 | X
  • right now it's fucking pin-drop

    cocodaLOL | 28 Nov '12, 15:00 | X
