do you get super lazy when you know you're leaving? Or do you power through and leave glorious with everything finished?
and if it doesnt affect:
> any potential reference for the new employers, and
> your final pay packet
I also spend as much time as is reasonably possible prepping for the new job and forwarding useful e-mails and documents. And perloining stationery of course
posting diatribes and pointless guff on music message boards, winding myself up on the DM site and sending endless emails.
I've been lucky that in most roles I've been in I'm privy to knowledge that were I to go to a competitor with they'd be extremely unhappy so I usually get the standard four weeks gardening leave in which to work on finding new porn / punishing the liver / finishing games I don't even like?
i've never had gardening leave
Being paid to do f'all
surely it ENCOURAGES people to go to rivals
I'm a winner
but my housemate is a gardener
Hated him when he was. Went to Morocco for a month. Came back. Still had 2 months to do nothing.
You'd come home from a terrible day in an average paid graduate advertising job to find him in the living room, in a dressing gown, listening to opera, reading poetry, drinking red wine and smoking a pipe
O man o man o man I want some of that. If only I worked in a job that wasn't all bleeding fucking obvious to anyone.
For the majority of the time I couldn't giv a shit what happens any more. But then the last few days I make sure that I do a really good hand over to whoever is taking over my role.
no fucking danger I'm actually doing work
The first day after handing in my notice I came in and did fuck all. The second day I rang in sick. The third day I meant to ring in sick but forgot. The fourth day I fucked it off. I came in on the last day because I'd arranged some leaving drinks after work so I wanted to make sure people came, but I did fuck all all day again.
I don't think anyone here has a work ethic.
took me a couple of seconds. i think i can actually sign this off today, hang on.
"Working" form home as many days as I can get away with.
My boss wants to leave too (there's only two of us in the department), so she's really grumpy that I'm going before her and has stopped doing any work, so I have too.
She doesn't seem to realise that she'll be the one that'll have it all to do once I'm gone.
And then they make you work it.
For three months.
Well it did, but that was over a year ago.
did you have a sunny demeanour while working it?
thought he was being really clever by negotiating a 12 month notice period with his director even though his director told him he was being an idiot. How to ensure no-one will ever offer you a job if you get fed up with it...
it's like winning a mini lottery
but then - KATASROFIA - it got revoked and I had to go back in towork for the mid-end of summer because a client went ballistic that I wasn't handing over on my deal. cuntflaps.
I start regretting giving my notice and start convincing myself I quite enjoy my job and aren't the people great?
It doesn't stop me leaving, or knowing that I wouldn't be leaving if it was a great job with great people.
without dropping the hint that I'm thinking of leaving? I guess ask for a copy of my original contract? (I have no fucking idea where my original copy is)
(I'm not saying you're not important)
So I was kind of hoping it'll be really short. Hmm. Will scavenge around for the original this evening.
He was 25 minutes late today.
